---- Chapter 299 After Nathan and Kayla got back together, he openly showed off their affection in his group chat. There weren't many members in the group. Everyone knew that three years ago, he was about to get engaged, but for some reason, he called it off. Amoment ago, he posted a photo on his social feed. It was an amber-colored drink. "My sweetheart made me hangover soup. It's refreshingly sweet." Upon seeing the post, his friends all reacted with likes and comments. Broburgh City's weather had left Sebastian feeling unwell for the past few days.

That night, after drinking a bit with several people from work, he returned home in a daze. With one hand, he yanked off his tie. Spotting Nathan's post online, he commented " Congratulations" and tossed the phone aside. After showering , he removed his necklace and held it in his palm. He then went to the fridge, grabbed a cold beer, popped it open, and took a few swigs. The burning in his stomach did not ease at all. Like a lost spirit, he sat on the armchair by the floor-to- ---- ceiling window.

The room was dark except for the faint moonlight spilling in, casting over Sebastian's lean frame. As he lowered his gaze, the furrowed brows of his sharp profile made him look distant and unapproachable. The burning sensation in his stomach had turned to pain. He felt it, yet he still finished the remaining half bottle of beer calmly. He sat by the window for a long while , wondering whether Valeria also liked doing the same and gazing at the surroundings . If she did, it meant they were both looking at the same night view. He thought it was kind of nice to share this with her.

At 10:30 pm, Sebastian rose slowly from his spot by the window. He went to the couch, opened a drawer, took two painkillers from the medical kit, and swallowed them-with little to no effect fifteen minutes later. Outside, a storm raged with lightning and rain. The room remained dark, save for the brief flashes of lightning that highlighted Sebastian's icy, pale face. He curled up on the couch. Keeping a watchful eye, Nemo rested near the couch and nudged Sebastian lightly with his nose every so often. ---- At 11:30 pm, Valeria turned off her laptop and went to check on Selena.

She quietly closed the door when she saw that Selena was already asleep. Then, she headed to the kitchen to prepare breakfast, knowing it would save time the next morning. Inthe kitchen, she washed and tore the lettuce into bite-sized pieces. Her phone, left in the bedroom, didn't catch her attention until it rang for the third time. Valeria wiped her hands and returned to her room. Seeing a call from an unfamiliar number, she called back, only to find it was Calvin on the line. "Mr. Scott, is there something you need at this hour?" she asked.

A flash of lightning briefly illuminated the room, Rainstorms were common in Broburgh City this time of year, especially at night. Valeria approached the window to ensure it was properly closed. "Mr. Grant isn't feeling well. Ms. Neal, could you check on him?" Before Valeria could respond, Calvin hurriedly added," It's raining cats and dogs. I won't be able to get there in time."
