---- Chapter 300 As thunder cracked outside , Valeria gripped the edge of the curtain tightly. "If he's unwell, just call an ambulance." Calvin replied, "Ms. Neal, Mr. Grant had a thoracotomy five months ago. Back in Shagos, a bullet pierced his lung, and they had to remove part of the damaged tissue. If he spikes a fever, he's at serious risk of acute pneumonia and suffocation. After a pause, he continued, "His body hasn't fully recovered. He only came to Broburgh City on short notice.
The doctor advised at least half a year of rest." As Calvin spoke, thunder rolled outside, echoing endlessly in Valeria's ears. It rumbled on, roaring as though it would never end. Through the curtain, Valeria could still feel the blaze of lightning, turning the night into sudden daylight. And in that instant, his voice fell silent. At 11:40 pm, Valeria finally unlocked the door on her third attempt. She had never cared much for birthdays, but she always remembered her own. Sebastian, on the other hand, never did.

It didn't shock her that he would use it as the password , nor ---- did it stir her heart. She pushed the door open, and before her, only pitch- blackness filled her sight. Acouple of barks cut through the stillness. Nemo, wary at first, rushed to her side. The moment it caught her scent, it calmed down. It even bit lightly at her pant leg, urging her to step inside. Valeria entered the living room and saw a frail silhouette curled on the couch. Walking closer, she reached out to feel Sebastian's forehead. It was burning hot. "Sebastian ?" She called his name, but there was no response.
Switching on the light, Valeria looked at him lying there before her eyes shifted to the open medical kit on the table. He was a doctor, yet he had driven himself into such a state. Inside the kit, there were only painkillers and nothing else. Sebastian lay on the couch, running a temperature and half- conscious. His face was flushed with fever. With his eyes closed and a hand clutching his abdomen, he lay curled up in pain. Valeria looked at him for a long moment and let out a helpless sigh.
She then went back to her apartment and gathered some fever medicine, a thermometer, and even a cooling patch for ---- children. Her medical kit, unlike his, was fully equipped. Valeria took Sebastian's temperature-102 degrees Fahrenheit. She placed a cooling patch on his forehead, poured a glass of water, and gently patted his cheek. " Sebastian?" She called him several times. Sebastian opened his eyes, and his sight was flooded with light. He had drifted into a muddled dream, one that took him back to his university days with Jane.
Jane had been a constant presence in his dreams for the past few years. In the dream, they walked side by side along the quiet paths of the campus. She reached for his hand, but before he could take hers, he woke, Ablinding brightness filled Sebastian's vision. It was so bright that he squinted in discomfort. Seeing the faint outline before him, he whispered hoarsely, " Jane... Don't leave..." Valeria pinched his cheek, slipped an ibuprofen into his mouth, and poured ina little water. "Take the medicine," she instructed. Sebastian choked and coughed twice.
---- She slid her hand behind his neck and helped him sit up. The moment he choked, the coughing came hard and unending . He clutched his chest, and his expression twisted with pain as the coughing tugged at the wound in his lungs.
