---- Chapter 98: Bad Timing ~ Soraya ~ "We have called this emergency meeting to inform everyone that my son, Rohan, is giving up 5% of his shares. He is selling it to Soraya's uncle," Arvind Sharma announced, surprising Soraya. Soraya had expressed that her uncle was interested in buying shares. She just didn't know it would happen so soon. When she turned to Rohan, he smiled at her.

He explained, "I needed more funding for my research and figured it's best that | sell half of my shares, but make no mistake, Soraya, my family's favoritism toward you will not grant you any discount." The boardroom echoed with laughter, and when the amusement hushed, Arvind revealed, "Soraya, | hope you don' t mind. Given the company's growth, Rohan has decided to sell his shares at a forty percent premium." "It's fine," Soraya said, smiling. "I understand. Thank you." She turned to Rohan and said the same. Rohan gave Soraya a very amiable smile, one that made him incredibly good-looking.

Too bad, he just wasn't her type. Now, she felt guilty altogether. As the business picked up, none of the shareholders of Aegis Core Systems wanted to sell their shares, but Rohan did. What if he did it for Soraya? And yet, she was going to deny him that... friendly dinner. "We look forward to meeting your uncle, Soraya," one board member said. "At least we know that the shares will still be in good hands," ---- Silas commented, and others echoed in agreement. There were a total of fifteen shareholders. Mr. and Mrs. Sharma remained the largest, each holding 12.5%.

Next were Silas and Soraya, with 10% each. Rohan, after selling 5% to Soraya's uncle, would be left with only 5%. The remaining 45% was divided among ten other investors of Aegis Core Systems, most of whom were close friends of the Sharma couple. They briefly discussed the increase in sales among their products and services, especially NeuroSentinel. Afterward, when the meeting adjourned, Soraya took the opportunity to speak to Rohan. "Rohan, can | have a word?" Soraya asked, and he happily nodded. "Lead the way," he said, smiling at her.

When Soraya guided Rohan to her office, she caught Silas giving her that look, one that said, 'Really?' She waved him off as she entered her office with Rohan. Inside, Soraya said, "Thank you for the flowers, by the way." She motioned to one corner of the room where two mid-steel flower vases held the lilies. "They are lovely." "I'm glad you liked them," Rohan said, taking his seat. Soraya paused before explaining, "Rohan, before you officially sell those shares to my uncle, | want to tell you ahead that... | may not go with that... friendly dinner with you." Rohan seemed taken aback.

The smile on his face faded. He blinked a few times, but soon asked, "Why? | thought you were divorcing?" "Lam, but... | met someone," Soraya said. "And... | like him very much." ---- "Is it Silas?" Rohan asked. Soraya shook her head. "No." Then, Rohan laughed. "Why do | always have bad timing?" He looked down and added, "I should have come sooner." "Rohan," Soraya said. "Even if it were the case, | don't know if I' d be able to open my heart to you." "Honestly, liking him was an accident. And yet, strangely, everything about him feels like it was made for me," she admitted.

She didn't mention Angela, but she was a big part of it. There was silence between Soraya and Rohan before he gulped and said, "Thank you, Soraya, for... letting me know, but .. [don't know if | can forget about you easily." Achuckle escaped his lips. His fingers ran through his light brown hair as he said, "I had always liked you, but back then, | was still a newly practicing surgeon. | still had many things to achieve for myself, and | didn't think it was the right time to approach you." "Im not that great, Rohan." Soraya forced a smile.

"I'm sure you can meet someone else." "But you aren't married, right?" he asked. "Ah, no?" Soraya answered hesitantly. "Well... | suppose that means | still have a sliver of hope?" Rohan said, leaning forward. "Um." Soraya did not know how to reply to that. Again, he chuckled. "Sorry. | don't mean to make you uncomfortable. All I'm saying is that | can't control how | feel about you.

I'll respect your space, but know that | will always be around to support and appreciate you." ---- "| don't mind if we skip that dinner, but as for the way | feel about you, | can't change them overnight, nor can | help myself but show you... in the most... subtle way," he said, rising to his feet. "As for the shares, | could use the money for my research institute. | am still selling 5% of it. We're on the verge of a medical breakthrough, one that could define my legacy." "But, if not dinner, then... | could use your help in adding a chatbox to my research institute's website," Rohan said.

"A chatbox? That's easy," Soraya echoed, eager to change the subject. "Let me know the details." "I'll swing by again to discuss it with you." Rohan checked the time and said, "I'm flying to the capital in a few hours. There's a heart-transplant surgery tomorrow | need to lead." "Oh, wow! Good luck! You are doing an amazing job, Rohan, and," she paused, opening the door, "thank you for understanding." At her office door, Soraya watched Rohan's godly back disappear from her line of sight. She heaved a sigh of relief, knowing that part was over. "He really is a good guy," she muttered.

As Soraya stood in the lobby, she noticed the receptionist bring in a tall man in his late fifties. He wore a sharp suit, but the look he gave her was cold, almost accusing. Soraya didn't know him, so at first she was only puzzled. Minutes later, when Silas called her into his office, the truth came out. The man was Mrs. Annette Grayson's lawyer. On Silas's desk was a thick, five-page letter filled with complaints and accusations. Annette demanded two things: One, that Aegis Core Systems terminate Soraya for "moral misconduct," claiming she had been her husband's mistress.

---- Two, that Soraya pay back thirty million dollars, the amount Annette believed her husband had wasted on her. Naturally, Silas shot back, defending Soraya. However, Soraya remained calm after reading the demand letter. She said to the lawyer, "Didn't you receive my request to meet?" "Ill give Mrs. Grayson what she wants, whatever it is, but she needs to make sure none of this goes out to the public. And second, she will bring Mr. Grayson to the place and time | set," Soraya said. "Tell her, I'll make it worth her time." "Ill come with you," Silas declared. Soraya gulped.

Silas being there wasn't part of the plan. However, she knew very well her friend would do everything to protect her. Silas would never leave her in a battleground. The next day, Soraya met with Mr. and Mrs. Grayson. Soraya was ready to lay out every fact, but the moment slipped from her control. She would soon learn the hard way: standing up to power required someone even more powerful at her side.
