Chapter 186: Damien's Real Reasons
~ Damien ~
“So, you believe you were set up,” the lawyer from Jacob Steel’
s party cross-examined Damien.
“Yes,” Damien responded with confidence. “There's no other
explanation for it.”
The third hearing moved forward shortly after the social
worker's visit. Damien could only assume the report from
social services had prompted the judge to change the
schedule.
The lawyer who questioned him this time was Martin.
Martin: “So, let me get this straight. Someone drained your
pool, reconstructed the floor, planted fifty kilos of illegal
substance, covered it up with customized tiles, and then
refilled it with water?”
Damien: “Yes!”
Martin: “And you never noticed any of that happening in your
own backyard?”
Damien: “I said | didn’t!”
Martin: “And you expect this court to believe that?”
Damien: “I told you, | didn’t know anything about it!”
Martin: “No further questions, Your Honor.”
Damien tried his best to stay calm. Martin, the lawyer, had just
made him look very stupid. His eyes drifted to the woman
sitting next to Jacob.
Over the past three days, he and his uncle had tried to find the
link to Jacob Steel. They were both quick to assume it was
his wife, Soraya. After all, there had been news about her—
----
how she was a genius programmer and tech expert.
They assumed Damien's network at home had been hacked.
In fact, his WhatsApp account had been compromised. That
was how Caesar had the impression that he could go to
Damien's house that day and buy a new stash.
Whoever managed to get into his account had sent Caesar a
message!
Sadly though, Damien and his uncle could not find a trace of
whoever had penetrated his network at home. They even
spent thousands of dollars commissioning a known
cybersecurity specialist in the city, only to bear no results.
Whoever breached his network did a clean job and left no
traces whatsoever.
While sitting on the stand, Damien wondered, ‘Just how
capable is Jacob's wife? She looks so innocent, like a fallen
angel, but she actually fights dirty!’
After Damien, his ex-girlfriend Leona was called back as a
witness. What Leona said in court drew a reaction from
someone Damien had not expected to be in court that day.
The lawyer who questioned Leona was Jacob's lead counsel,
Harold.
Harold: “Miss Briggs, when did you learn that Damien had a
daughter with Sienna Ashford?”
Leona: “More than three months ago. Damien called me.”

Harold: “What did Damien say?”
Leona: “Damien said that he had a daughter and that he
wanted to get back with me.”
Harold: “Why mention having a daughter?”
Leona: “Because | had three abortions. | can no longer
----
conceive. It was one of the reasons why | broke up with
Damien. He begged me to forgive him, but | never did. Instead,
| fell in love with another man who is a single father. With my
new relationship, | could still be a mother without the anxiety
of being infertile."
Harold: “So, in your opinion, why is Mr. Cross introducing his
daughter to you now?”
Leona: “Because he wants to get back with me, and he knows
that | wanted to have a child. He thinks that by introducing
this child to me, | would forgive him.”
After that revelation, Damien ended up looking at the judge.
The latter turned to him with narrowed eyes. Given the judge's
reaction, Damien feared he believed Leona.
“Don't worry. We are going to discredit Leona. Just stay calm,”
his uncle whispered beside him.
Meanwhile, Harold continued, “Do you have proof of this
exchange?”
Leona: “Most of what I've said today was things we discussed
in person, but | can show you the text message where
Damien mentioned that he has a daughter. In that message,
he said that we can still work things out.”
Just as Leona handed her phone to Harold for evidence
submission, someone screamed from the back rows.
“Damien! You lied to me!”
Everyone's heads snapped toward the rear of the courtroom.
Sienna was there!
She looked furious. Sienna's eyes were red, and her nose
flared.
Damien had instructed Sienna not to come to court that day,
----
fearing that whatever she might hear from Leona would
provoke a negative reaction. And that was exactly what
happened.
Sienna pointed to Damien and shouted, her voice shaking, “
Damien, you said that if | help you get Angela, we could be a
couple, officially!"
Then, Sienna motioned to Leona, who was still on the stand. “
But you were planning to get back to her instead? You were
going to use Angela to get back to her?!”
“Order in the court!” Judge Ramirez banged the gavel several
times as murmurs erupted across the room. He turned to the
court officer and ordered, “Remove that woman at once!”
Sienna kept shouting as the officer approached, her voice
echoing off the courtroom walls.
As a result, the judge ruled, “Ms. Ashford, you are in direct
contempt of this court. You will be escorted out immediately
and will face sanctions for disrupting judicial proceedings.”
Damien’s face turned pale as Sienna was led away, her
disclosures still hanging heavy in the air. He thought that was
the end of it, and for a brief moment, he felt relieved. But then
Sienna screamed, “Wait! Wait! | will testify! | have information
and proof that Damien always knew about Angela!”
The courtroom erupted into chaos. Jacob's camp looked
especially thrilled.
Edmund immediately rose to object, insisting that Sienna’s
testimony was not credible.
Judge Ramirez scoffed and turned sharply toward Edmund. “
So when Miss Ashford’s statement served your client, you
were eager to use her testimony, but now that it doesn't, you'd
rather silence her?”
----
He struck the gavel once. “Overruled. | will allow it.”
Sienna impatiently took the stand, with nothing but revenge
burning in her eyes. She locked eyes with Damien and
revealed to the court, “Ever since | found out | was pregnant, |
told Damien. He even went with me to my first check-up, but
he rejected me. He said he wasn't ready to be a father, let
alone be in a committed relationship with me!”
“More than two years ago, | brought Angela to see Damien in
Fairmont because | was hoping he could learn to like our
daughter, and maybe he could consider me as his partner. But
he said he would never accept a child who didn’t speak! He
said Angela was a retard!”
“He never wanted Angela! He only wanted to cash in on this
legal battle!” With eyes hooded, Sienna offered, “I have six
years of evidence in text messages to prove my claims."
