---- Chapter 181: Social Worker Visit ~ Soraya ~ "Angela, we have a guest today. Would you like to say hi?" Soraya called Angela from her room. Slowly, Angela came out, eyeing the social service workers. There were two of them, both female. Their names were Cora and Sylvia. Jacob and Veronica were already in the living room with the guests. "Hi Angela, how are you doing?" Sylvia greeted. Angela just waved and then hugged Soraya. "She's a little shy when it comes to new people," Soraya explained, guiding Angela to the living room. "That's alright," Cora said with a smile, leaning closer.
"Angela, we heard you like music, so we brought you a gift." Sylvia presented Angela with a round steel tongue drum. At first, Angela hesitated, but Soraya accepted the gift on her behalf and explained, "Angela, this is like a mini drum. Remember, we talked about notes? It's just like numbers, and you can play music too." Soraya played a simple 'Mary Had a Little Lamb' song on the drum. Angela's eyes lit up. "Wow!" She grabbed the instrument and began playing on her own, smiling. That was when the interview began.
The previous social worker who handled Angela's case was no longer with social services. The visitors were new to Angela. An interview was necessary to clarify information in Angela's file. ---- "So, Angela has Asperger's, but how did she go from moderate to mild speech impairment in just a few months?" Cora asked, referring to Angela's developmental report. "Ah, that's when my wife came in," Jacob said, putting his arm around Soraya. "I asked for her help with Angela, and she just ... Knew what to do.
My daughter also connected with Ara, like they were two peas in a pod." "lL also have Asperger's," Soraya revealed. "So, | understood her needs quickly." "You can see more about Angela's progress when you visit her old therapy center," Jacob suggested, and the social workers agreed Since Jacob was temporarily living in Burnell, the home visit would be conducted in two parts: their current home and Angela's old school in Belridge. After the initial interview, the social workers inspected their hotel suite, which had been converted into a three-bedroom home.

They paid special attention to Angela's room. Soraya noticed them examining her coloring books, personal space, and toys. In the living room, their gaze lingered on family portraits. Cora picked up a picture of Angela collecting seashells on her birthday. Angela approached and shyly shared, "This was my birthday." "This photo was taken on your birthday?" Cora asked. Angela's eyes gleamed as she nodded. During the inspection, Soraya yawned. Angela quickly hugged her. "Mommy needs energy, Daddy." Jacob laughed. "We can hug Mommy later, Sweetie. We have visitors." ---- "Is Mrs.
Steel feeling unwell?" Cora asked. Soraya's loose dress revealed nothing at first, but Angela explained, "My Mommy has babies inside. I'm going to be a big sister." "Oh. Congratulations, Mrs. Steel," Sylvia said. They then inspected the surroundings of Nexa Hotel and the villa under construction. "The house is almost ready. In two months, we'll move in," Jacob explained. "Does your mother normally live with you, Mr. Steel?" Cora asked. "Back in Belridge, no. She lives in our old estate across from mine," Jacob said.
"Here in Burnell, | need my mother's help more because | often fly back to Belridge for business." With a smile, Jacob added, "My mother has always helped me raise Angela, but it was my wife who brought the extra motherly touch to our home." Jacob's words made the social workers laugh. Soraya felt their guests were appreciating what they saw so far. They did question the safety of living on a power plant compound, but Jacob explained everything and gave them a detailed tour, showing just how secure it was.
The final part of the visit was a private talk with Angela in her room, where she felt most comfortable. Soraya and Jacob had no control over this interview. They could only hope Angela would demonstrate how happy they were as a family. So that she could stay where she belonged, rather than with her biological father. seek ---- ~ Angela ~ "Angela, we're going to ask you a few questions. If you can't answer, you can use pictures or draw," Cora said. Angela nodded. The ladies began asking questions.
From what Angela understood, they were social workers, so she mentally named them "Social Ladies." Social Lady 1: "Angela, when you are scared or sad, who do you go to first?" Angela: "Mommy." Social Lady 1: "Who do you like to play with at home? And what do you do?" Angela: "Mommy and Daddy." Angela: "Swimming with Daddy, and playing the piano with Mommy." Social Lady 1: "Who at home makes you upset sometimes?" Angela: "Daddy." Social Lady 1: "Why?" Angela: "He promised me a baby brother, but it took so long." The social workers laughed quietly.
Angela didn't know why, but she answered honestly. Social Lady 2: "Who helps you get ready for school?" Angela: "Nanny, sometimes Mommy." Social Lady 2: "Who takes you to school?" Angela: "Mommy and Grandma." Social Lady 2: "Does your daddy take you to school?" Angela: "Sometimes. He's busy." ---- Social Lady 2: "Who takes care of you when you're sick?" Angela: "Daddy, Mommy, Grandma, and Nanny." Social Lady 2: "What do you eat for breakfast, lunch, and dinner?" Angela picked out pictures: a carrot, broccoli, chicken, egg, and pancake.
"I eat ice cream and cakes sometimes, but Mommy and Daddy say not too much." Social Lady 2: "Angela, do you feel happy to have Ara as your mommy?" Angela nodded vigorously. "| was sad when | had no mommy. All kids had mommies. My mommy, Ara, loves me very much." Social Lady 2: "How do you feel about your daddy?" Angela: "I love my daddy. He's my only daddy." "One time, a bad man came to my school and said Daddy is not my daddy," Angela cried. "That's not true! Daddy loves me. He will always be my daddy!" The social ladies soothed her, and when Angela calmed down, they continued.
Social Lady 2: "How would you feel if you had to live somewhere else for a while?" Angela raised a brow. Social Lady 1 clarified, "Not with your Mommy Ara or Daddy Jacob?" "No!" Fear sank in. Angela snapped. "No! | love my mommy and daddy!" "My baby brothers are coming out soon!" Angela screamed. "I have to be there! Ahhh!" "Mommy!" Angela ran to the door, banging on it. "Daddy! Help! They're taking me! Mommy! Mommy!" ---- She cried so hard she could barely breathe. When the door opened, she rushed to Soraya, sobbing heavily.
