---- Chapter 97: Enough Was Enough ~ Calum ~ 'Mommy said she doesn't mind me being friends with Aunt Rose! Earlier, Calum had a talk with his daughter. Sage happened to mention what she and Soraya discussed last week, the evening she spent the night at the Montclair old mansion. The words suggested that Soraya was moving on, and for some reason, it didn't sit well with Calum. It was that same night he caught Soraya sneaking off to speak to someone on the phone. Calum had overheard Soraya saying words like 'I miss you too.' 'Who was she referring to? Silas?
It couldn't have been the doctor; Calum thought. What unsettled him most was that the memory lingered. And because it lingered, Calum started to wonder if the divorce was truly the right choice. Yesterday, Melvin visited him at the office, and even his friend shared the same thought. Melvin had said, "I mean, | think Rose is great, but you have a daughter with Soraya. | don't know. Maybe you should give Soraya a chance.
She was wrong for drugging you seven years ago, but maybe you can let go of that past?" Calum had not been seeing Rose lately, though he still accommodated her requests, currying favors, whatnot. And with Rose not by his side for days, Calum had much time to reflect. He contacted his divorce lawyer and asked him to call back. He was planning to cancel the divorce filing, at least for now. ---- He needed time to think, stall for another two months if he had to. But just as he left a message, Rose walked into his office. His assistant, Greg, already knew to let Rose in whenever she came.
"Calum, I... | have something | need to tell you," Rose said softly, her voice almost trembling. "I saw... | saw Soraya with Senator Thomas Grayson." Calum frowned. "Rose, didn't | warn you about this? Soraya isn' t bothering us." Rose's gray eyes widened, and she shook her head. "I know... | know what this sounds like, but | felt like | needed to show you. She held out her phone, hesitating for a moment before pressing play. "Listen." "Of course, | hate you, Rose. | hate you for the pain you've caused me.

And | do plan to get back, but not in the way you expect." Calum recognized Soraya's voice immediately. "Soraya... she's never been okay with the divorce, Calum," Rose said, her voice tight with worry. "I... | didn't want to believe it at first, but | saw a different side of Soraya when she was arguing back with Mrs. Grayson." "Calum, what if she never moved on from the comfortable life the Montclairs offered her, and... she's now involved with Senator Grayson just to maintain that life. I'm worried, Calum, | really am-that she might use this connection to hurt me, to come after me for...
for taking you from her." She paused, swallowing hard. "I didn't do this to hurt anyone, especially since | also care about Sage. But it's exactly ---- because | love Sage that | thought you should know. If this scandal ever goes out, it will hurt Sage. Imagine her mother being called a mistress to a senator. Please... let me show you the rest of the video." Rose first narrated how she and Claire ended up meeting Soraya at a Japanese restaurant. Then, she played several short clips on her phone. "Why is the video not continuous?" Calum asked, his jaw tightening, his hands balled into fists.
What angered Calum most wasn't just seeing Soraya in the same room as Mr. Grayson; it was the senator's casual acknowledgment of her as his mistress. In that instant, fury rose in him, not only toward Soraya but toward himself for even entertaining the thought of canceling the divorce. "|... [had to pause a few times because | was worried Soraya might notice me," Rose admitted softly, her voice shaking a little. "Calum, | just... | wanted your parents to see the truth for themselves.
| figured that if | recorded this, they would understand who she really is." "| know they've never liked me," Rose added, her voice low. They think I'm selfish, but | just... | care about you, about Sage, and | want to be honest." She looked down at her hands, fidgeting slightly, then back up at him. "I just hope they'll see that... that maybe I'm the right one for you." "These past few days, our distance has kept me worried. | honestly feared that you had taken your parents' side when it came to Soraya," she added. Calum listened quietly, his frown softening as he observed Rose's concerns.
He pulled her into a hug and rubbed her back. "Don't worry. I'm sure my parents will come around eventually. Right now, my mother just needs to get back to ---- health." "But this matter about Soraya, | need to intercept it. It will affect Sage, so | need to protect her too," Calum said, pulling away and holding her hand. "And about us, nothing changes." He gulped because even if he was about to say it, he struggled with the words. "You are still the woman | chose." Calum's lawyer eventually called back, but as soon as he picked up the call, he said, "It's nothing.
Follow up with my divorce and make sure it's finalized by Monday." Monday was the deadline of the waiting period. Calum figured the sooner he was officially divorced from Soraya, the better. Enough was enough. Soraya had entangled herself in his life far too long. soe ~ Soraya ~ Meanwhile, Soraya went to work as if nothing had happened. Yesterday's humiliation still stung, and her determination to strike back at Rose burned fiercer than ever. Jacob had been ready to wage war against the senator, but Soraya knew better. Charging head-on wasn't her style.
What truly worried her was the possibility that the scandal might reach Sage. To prevent that, she had instructed her lawyer to arrange a private meeting with the Graysons. The sooner, the better. Mrs. Grayson wanted back whatever her husband had given Soraya. Soraya agreed to comply. Only, what she planned to return was something Mrs. Grayson would never see coming.
