---- Chapter 93: Soraya's Dowry ~ Soraya ~ That evening, over tea, Soraya finally told Jacob about her cybersecurity side job, the one that had earned her the most money so far. She told him about how it started and how she agreed to work with the FBI. They were in Jacob's room, seated on the balcony. The man turned to Soraya and asked, "Does the FBI have a lead on who is leading this syndicate of hackers?" "They have apprehended ten hackers now, including three who took part in the attempt to hack your company," Soraya shared.
"The FBI has identified who is leading and funding the attacks, but like most hackers, this person goes by an alias, so the authorities are trying to get a lead on him. But at least, they already know where to look." Jacob nodded. Last night, Soraya had traced the hacking attempt to a van parked right outside his company. It wasn't just any van; it had been converted into a mobile command center. Inside, the authorities found high-end laptops and custom-built rigs with multiple monitors, tangled cables snaking across the floor, and signal boosters mounted discreetly on the roof.
Thankfully, the FBI and local authorities responded swiftly and made the arrest. The hackers had never truly breached SteelCore Industries' security walls. Still, after Soraya added another layer of protection to their system, she was able to pinpoint their location. Realizing they'd been exposed, the hackers immediately started to retreat. "It's a dangerous job," Jacob remarked. "It pays really well," Soraya said. "Besides, I'm always with ---- Cassie and one or two backup officers, depending on the location." Jacob did not look at her.
He heaved a sigh, like he was getting a headache from what she shared. "Besides,' she added. "Hackers are cowards. They don't do frontal attacks. If they are going to go after me, they will use the same tactics - cyberattacks." "But they could be commissioned to perform these attacks. For example, | have enemies in business, Soraya. Someone could have ordered the cyberattack on my company,' Jacob explained. "That's why | use an alias, and you can't tell anybody,' Soraya pointed out. Again, he sighed. He was in deep thought after that. A minute later, he asked, "What else?
What are your other means of income?" "Oh, don't worry. The other one is safe," Soraya said. "Am | not worthy of your trust?" Jacob asked. "Can you just please tell me so | know what to expect?" Soraya told Jacob about the properties she had acquired in preparation for the expressway construction. "Ah, so that's the location of Altum Expressway Development' s next project," Jacob muttered while caressing his jaw. "You know?" she asked. "| was aware that Altum Expressway Development was going to be working on a new project, but they haven't disclosed the details yet.

They were already giving me a heads-up to bid for the project construction," Jacob shared. He paused and asked, "Did you buy all the land in that ---- direction?" Soraya laughed. "How could |? | only had an eighty-million- dollar budget. | had to take a loan from my uncle's company and used up all of my alimony." She pouted, muttering, "I wish | had asked Calum for more money." "You should have," Jacob said. "Rose has gotten more money from him than you, when you have given up so much-" His jaw clenched, and his eyes closed. He did not continue his words.
He simply reached for her hand and said, "Never mind. You are mine now." Soraya thought it was a very possessive thing to say, but she didn't hate it. To her, it sounded more like a promise. "Ill buy more properties in that area, and you can later manage them in your realty company,' Jacob suggested. "You are giving me things again," she muttered. "Im not giving it to you... yet," he said. "It's still going to be under my name, and you can manage it. It's just like what | said." "Fine," Soraya gave in. "Keep the money you earned for assisting my company," Jacob said firmly.
"Why?" Soraya said. "It's the least | could do to help you! It wasn't business, | wanted to do that for you!" Jacob was about to object, but suddenly, his face relaxed. There was a slight grin on his lips. He cleared his throat and seriously said, "Fine, keep only a million dollars. I'll take back the rest." "ll consider it... as your dowry." ---- Soraya, Okay, first of all. It was his money. What was he talking about? How could that be... her dowry? Second, why was Jacob already talking about marriage when their relationship was still fresh? But, Soraya did not ask.
She wasn't ready for his answer. "Are there more?" he asked. "For now, that's it," Soraya said. "But, I'm also eyeing Dalton Realty." Jacob turned to her once more, and it was clearly in his expression that he understood her goals. He nodded and promised, "I'll look into how | can help you." When Soraya hesitated, Jacob said, "If accepting my help makes you uneasy, then think of it as a trade. You can help me back. This isn't about you depending on me." "Okay. Okay," she said. "Thanks, Jacob." "Do you still need to trade tonight?" Jacob asked, and Soraya confirmed. "Lhave things to do.
I'll catch up with you later," Jacob said, confusing Soraya. "Catch up? What for?" she asked, bemused. "ll sleep in your room," Jacob clarified. Soraya blinked. Her face reddened as she said, "But, but... | need to get up early tomorrow." "Don't worry. | won't disturb you. I'm also exhausted." He walked to her and kissed her cheek. Then, he walked out of his room, probably to go to his study. seek ---- ~ Jacob ~ In his study, Jacob called Dante. He asked, "Look into Special Agent Cassie Vaughn.
Find out if she can be trusted." He had promised Soraya he'd keep her side job a secret, but Dante was one man he trusted with his life. Six years at his side, eliminating rivals and handling delicate matters, made Dante indispensable. "Will do, Sir," Dante confirmed. "Also, assign two of our men to follow Soraya now and then. Their priority is to ensure her safety," Jacob added. "Why don't you just give her a bodyguard, Sir?" Dante asked. "Knowing Ara," Jacob said, referring to Soraya. "She wouldn't like it." He let out another heavy sigh, his tensed face swaying in disapproval.
"Why did | end up falling for a complicated woman?" "Ah, because-" Dante's words were cut off. Jacob answered his own question, "Because nothing makes a woman more interesting than one with an angel's face but a mind of a supercomputer." Dante: "Yes, Sir, and-" Jacob: "Innocent-looking on the outside, terrifying ability on the inside." Dante: "Agreed, Sir." Jacob: "| could have just fallen for someone normal. Predictable.
But no, | had to pick the one who builds firewalls and hunts down hackers in her spare time." Dante: "Miss Azar is amazing, Sir." ---- Jacob: "Exactly, a perfect match for me." Dante: "Then there is nothing to argue about, Sir. You both just need to complement each other." Jacob: "Hmmm. Hurry up with my orders. Make sure someone is already looking out for her tomorrow." Dante: "Yes, Sir." eek Author's Notes: Thank you so much for gifts, comments and for following me on social. It means a lot to me.
