---- Chapter 162: Search History ~ Calum ~ On a weekend, Calum and Rose were waiting in the VIP area of the airport. They were headed to their honeymoon destination. The staff offered them tea and snacks while they waited for their flight. Just then, the news flashed on the TV screen. Calum looked up and was stunned. A major national news channel covered the story. "Good evening," a female news anchor said. "In a spectacular tech event yesterday at the Vanguard Galleria, Cedar Heights, Aegis Core Systems officially launched NeuroSentinel 2.0, the latest breakthrough in cybersecurity.
During a live demonstration, multiple attempted breaches were made against the system, and in every case, NeuroSentinel 2.0 detected and neutralized the attacks in real time. No hacker was able to penetrate the software's defenses, proving the system's unmatched capabilities." "Here's a special report from yesterday's launch, featuring our interview with Soraya Azar, the lead engineer behind NeuroSentinel 2.0." The screen immediately shifted to the view of Soraya. Calum leaned in, listening, his eyes glued to the screen.
Soraya was standing in a white business suit, her team visible behind her. "It was challenging, requiring long nights of analysis and countless iterations," Soraya said, her tone calm but assured. " My team applied rigorous methods at every step, and I'm grateful for the support we've received. | look forward to ---- developing more advanced and innovative systems, not just in cybersecurity, but beyond." Reporter: "You co-developed NeuroSentinel four years ago, and then disappeared. What happened?
What made you come back to make NeuroSentinel 2.0?" Soraya smiled, looking down before returning her gaze to the camera. She said, "| made a wrong decision. | chose others that | thought would bear fruit, but they didn't. That's okay. At least | tried. Now, | have the right support and love, and nothing will hold me back." With conviction, Soraya added, "This won't be the first time you will hear my name, Soraya Azar." Reporter: "We are looking forward to hearing more from you, Miss Azar." Calum could not help but feel a pang in his chest.
He ended up massaging that part of his body, soothing it. "Calum?" "Calum!" "Calum, | have been calling you." He turned and realized his wife was there, the woman he chose over Soraya. Rose said, "I'm just curious, didn't you say that Soraya was relying on Silas to develop this app?" That was a long time ago, when Calum didn't know Soraya well. He shook his head and revealed, "No, Soraya is more skilled than Silas." "What?" Rose asked, frowning. "How is that possible? How would you know that?" "Because | have seen it with my own eyes," Calum said, resting back.

---- Rose had a question-mark look on her face, but Calum did not want to linger on the topic. Instead, he said, "Drink your vitamins." In the days that followed, news about Soraya continued to be featured in news outlets and on the internet. There were reports about her scholastic records, her level of intelligence, and even the fact that she had Asperger's. While on their honeymoon, Calum read them all. He couldn't help but check the news and search for Soraya's name. It had been at the top of his search history.

There were even local influencers who did interviews at Soraya's old college, which gained fewer than a hundred views. Still, Calum watched them.
There was an interview with Cedar Heights Institute of Technology's dean of the college. A certain Professor Leonard Hsu said, "Soraya has the potential to achieve extraordinary things. If only she had let her skills and ingenuity shine earlier, she would have been making breakthroughs years ago." So who held Soraya back? Calum knew the answer, and instead of enjoying his honeymoon, he couldn't help but think of Soraya now and ---- then. He finally understood. Seven years of her life, her marriage to him, and her devotion to Sage had meant putting her own career aside.
'Maybe | should talk to her, or should 1?' Calum wondered, his gaze looking out to where Rose was, sunbathing on their villa' s sundeck. 'No, | shouldn't; he massaged his forehead, leaning back in his seat. 'I'm already married. | should be happy with Rose. We have a child together' 'And Rose? Rose is -' Calum could not even finish his words. He simply shut his eyes to breathe. Later that evening, while Calum was having dinner with Rose at the resort's restaurant, another set of news flooded his phone. The internet was buzzing at Aegis Core System's celebration party for NeuroSentinel 2.0.
There were images posted on Aegis Core System's social media page: Mr. and Mrs. Sharma posing for the cameras in their formal wear. There was Silas Ward, a few familiar businessmen, and politicians Calum knew in the city. "Calum, let's eat," Rose said, but instead of digging in, he found himself scrolling through the social media page until he found what he was looking for. He scanned past photos of his own parents attending the celebration. Then, there were photos of Soraya. She had photos of herself with her friends, Silas, and another girl. He believed it was Lyra, an old friend of Soraya.
There was also a photo of Soraya and the doctor, Rohan Sharma. They stood behind the huge Aegis Core System logo, smiling at the camera. ---- To his surprise, Jacob Steel attended. There was a photo of Jacob, Amanda, Cedric, and Soraya. Greg Foster was also there! His assistant, Greg, was no longer functioning as Calum's aide. Instead, he was now working with Jacob. After all, Jacob was the stand-in CEO of the Montclair Group. So, he supposed, Calum shouldn't be surprised that Greg was there. And he guessed Jacob was there because he was a client of Aegis Core Systems.
One particular photo caught his attention; it was one with Soraya and Jacob standing next to each other. Jacob's hand disappeared behind Soraya, maybe to the small of her back, but what really bothered him was how his ex-wife was smiling so brightly and looked very comfortable. "What are you looking at, Calum?" Rose snapped, sounding irritated. She grabbed his phone and stared at the photos. Rose's mouth fell open. "Oh my God. Calum, is Soraya trying to get Jacob's attention? She can't do that. Jacob already has Ara." Calum frowned. He took back his phone and said, "They are working together.
That's probably why they have grown familiar with each other. Soraya has been helping Jacob with the Montclair Group." "There's nothing more to that," he insisted. "Be careful not to point fingers at Soraya anymore." In his mind, Calum told himself Jacob wouldn't cross the line. He and Soraya were divorced, yes, but to him, a silent code of friendship was universal. Jacob would never get involved with ---- Soraya. He may have led Melvin on, but he also knew the latter's words were empty. Melvin would also never pursue Soraya. ee ~ Rose ~ Meanwhile, Rose was uneasy in her seat.
When she saw the photo, she concluded that Soraya was flirting with Jacob. 'Is Soraya even qualified to stand alongside Jacob? Is she not satisfied with the doctor?' Rose swore she would get to know Ara, get close to her, and warn her about Soraya. She couldn't explain it; an urge burned inside her to see Soraya ruined, especially after noticing how Calum had been checking the news about his ex-wife. 'How could he?' she thought. They just got married, and the worst part was how Calum defended Soraya so casually.
