---- Chapter 205: Who Do You Love More? ~ Soraya ~ "Angela, before | met you, Mommy had another little girl named Sage." Soraya motioned to Sage. "She's your big sister. That means you both have me as your mommy." The two girls did not respond after that. Everyone could tell they both didn't know how to react to sharing Soraya as a mom. Thankfully, Veronica was quick to cut the awkward moment by inviting everyone to the dinner table. The entire time, Soraya noted how both Calum and Sage observed her new family. As for her and Jacob, they were natural with each other.

Jacob sometimes served her food. Soraya addressed her husband lovingly and made sure Angela had the right amount of nutrition on her plate. Of course, Soraya did not forget Sage. She also filled Sage's plate with enough meat and vegetables. Then, she reminded her, "I hope you've been eating healthy, Sage." Sage nodded and said, "Grandma has been preparing my food." As everyone ate, Soraya tried to think of a way to get the conversation started between the kids. Then, she remembered that she had taught both of them how to play the piano.

"Sage, do you remember when you said you wanted to teach someone how to play the piano?" Soraya asked, and Sage nodded. "Well, Angela is still a beginner. Would you like to teach her? We have a small keyboard here you can use later." Soraya ---- placed her hand on Angela's small back. Sage was sitting right in front of her. Sage paused while chewing her food. Then, she stared at Angela and back at Soraya. "Sure, Mommy." "And Sage, Angela is very good with puzzles. Remember those tiny Legos you used to ask for help with? Angela can easily spot them.

Maybe you can build one together," Soraya added. She turned to Angela and asked, "Would you like that, Angela?" Angela shrugged, but when she glanced at Sage, she gave a faint smile. Soraya tried her best to give fair attention to both children because it was obvious they were eyeing each other the whole time. Thankfully, the others tried to pitch in. Melvin suddenly spoke, "You know, Sage, Angela, your Uncle Melvin has an older brother. Growing up, it was fun. | had someone to play with and help me with my homework. You'll find it nice too." "Yeah, me too.

| have three older siblings," Luke remarked. "And you know, we're one big family," Amanda said. She was sitting beside Veronica, and the two hugged each other. "Like me and your grandma Veronica. We're like family too. Even if you didn't grow up in the same house, you can still love each other." "Big families are nice," Cedric remarked. He turned to Sage and asked, "Don't you think it's a little boring being the only kid at home?" Sage nodded, then smiled. Still, she didn't say much. Soraya thought everything was going better until Angela asked to have cake for dessert.

---- "| want a cake too, Mommy," Sage eagerly said. "Don't worry, there's more than enough cake for both of you," Soraya said. "Ah-" Jacob frowned, but Soraya didn't think much of it. She simply asked the housekeeper to bring the cake. However, when the maid arrived, she brought only one slice of chocolate cake. She revealed, "Ma'am, there's only one slice left. Mr. Steel ate two slices the other day." Immediately, Soraya glared at her husband. Jacob quickly gulped down a glass of water. Veronica chuckled. "Sometimes, the daddy can be a kid too." Melvin and Luke laughed.

Even Cedric and Amanda were amused. Only Calum and Sage didn't react to how Jacob competed with Angela for cake. But the main problem was that there was only one slice for two girls. "Mommy can make a cake later. For now, you both can share this one," Soraya said, cutting the cake in half while a housekeeper fetched another plate. Soraya gave the first half to Angela and the other to Sage. She said, "Isn't your birthday in two weeks? | can make a bigger one for you as an advance birthday cake." She couldn't believe how much time had gone by since she left Calum's side.

That day, Sage's birthday, marked every change in her life. Sage ate the cake silently, but as she did, she also watched Angela eat hers. They both stared at each other. "Do you also like Mommy's cake?" Sage asked, and Angela nodded. ---- "She bakes me a cake every month," Angela revealed. It seemed as though the two kids were getting along just fine. It wasn't a big leap, but it was a start... until suddenly, Sage cried. She was halfway through her cake when she pushed the plate away. "Sage?" Soraya called. Calum, who was beside Sage, rubbed her back.

"Sage, what's wrong?" Sage didn't say anything but got off the chair and ran. "Sage!" "Sage!" Soraya couldn't catch up with her daughter. She was too heavy to run, but both Jacob and Calum chased after her. Calum caught Sage at the front yard. He carried her back to face Soraya. "I'll take it from here," Soraya said. "Sage, Daddy will let you down, but promise not to run," Calum said, and Sage nodded. Sage was still crying when both Jacob and Calum stepped back to give them space. With enough distance around them, Soraya began to talk to her daughter.

"Why did you run?" "Mommy," Sage said, tears flooding her cheeks. "Who do you love more? Her or me?" Soraya felt like her heart had been squeezed by a hand. This was such a difficult question to answer, because the truth was, she had given Angela so much love for nearly a year that, naturally, Angela now held a bigger place in her heart. That was the truth, but of course, she didn't tell Sage that. ---- "Sage, Mommy never stopped loving you. But remember your sixth birthday? You didn't want me there. When you chose Rose over me, | didn't know if you still wanted my love.

So | gave it to Angela, because she needed me then, and she loved me back." Soraya's tears spilled as she spoke. "But you'll always be my daughter, Sage. My heart is big enough for both you and Angela... and for your new brothers too." She wiped her eyes and added softly, "Now that | have a bigger family, you'll have to learn to share Mommy's love. But | promise, there will always be enough for you." Soraya hugged her, but Sage's cries grew more desperate, and they didn't ease even after minutes of comforting her.

Amanda, Cedric, and Calum had to take turns soothing Sage until she fell asleep from her own sobs. Calum brought Sage back to the hotel to rest. Soraya thought that afternoon's scene was the most difficult thing she had to handle that day, but later, in the wee hours, while the couple was fast asleep, Jacob got a call from the local police station. Someone had caused trouble at a nearby bar.
