---- Chapter 185: Damien's Social Worker Visit ~ Damien ~ "We can still win this case. At the next hearing, Mr. Steel's party is inviting Leona Briggs back as a formal witness. We are going to ruin Leona's credibility. We can make it appear like she sent those text messages to herself,' Edmund, his uncle, said. Damien nodded. Leona had access to his phone when they lived together. Sometimes, she had sent herself messages, but they were mostly reminders. In the next hearing, they were going to push the narrative that Leona was blaming Damien for her abortions.
"Unfortunately, Leona got involved," Damien said. The truth was, his fight for Angela was partly for Leona, because he had wanted her back. But since his ex-girlfriend had chosen to side with Jacob Steel, he had no choice but to defend himself. Damien and his uncle were having a meeting at his home, a day before the social services visit. Sienna was nowhere near them. She needed to stay away because she did not have the right integrity to stand by Damien's side. "The next hearing will make or break this case. And you have to be prepared for your speech,' Edmund said.
"We need to make it count." Then Edmund smirked, leaning back in his seat. "If we win, you get custody of Angela, and we can begin milking money from Jacob Steel." Damien nodded. He earnestly believed Jacob loved Angela and would give up anything for her, but simply granting Mr. Steel custody would not be enough. ---- The best way to have an unlimited flow of financial support from Jacob Steel was to have Angela's adoption cancelled. "I'd better go. Prepare for the social worker visit tomorrow. Don't screw it up!" Edmund warned. Damien smirked. "I won't.
I'm very ready." The following day, Damien was clad in a white shirt and beige trousers. Image was everything, and white made him look innocent. He welcomed the social workers, saying, "Welcome to my humble home. It may not be as fancy as Mr. Steel's, but | have enough to raise a child." His walls were decorated with awards from the university and his acting career. He highlighted how he had coached the basketball team after graduating from college. "I just love kids, and | think | can also teach Angela how to play sports.

I've researched how sports can help boost a child's confidence, especially one with Asperger's." Damien showed them his room and the room he intended to assign to Angela. It was already painted pink and already had a small bed and a study table. "| know. I'm trying to manifest." He became teary-eyed, adding, "| have always wanted to share my life with someone. My last relationship didn't work, but that doesn't mean it won't work with my daughter. I-" Tears rolled down his face as he added, "I just wanted a chance." "We understand, Mr. Cross.
Can you show us around the house?" Cora, the social worker, said. Damien gave them a tour of the backyard. He had a huge lawn and a small pool to show off. After that, they returned to the living room for an interview. Everything was perfect... until he walked the social workers out the door. ---- A Mustang suddenly pulled into the driveway, making Damien' s eyes widen. A long-time customer, Caesar, stepped out of the car. His eyes were red and glassy, his movements jittery and uneven. He slouched as if the world weighed him down, and a faint smell of smoke clung to his clothes.
"Hey, Damien, | need a refill of my stash, please." The social workers looked at Damien in shock, while he denied everything. "|-I don't know this person." Damien purposely walked over to Caesar. "Excuse me, sir? What are you doing here?" Unfortunately, Caesar seemed too high to notice Damien's silent warning. If that wasn't bad enough, two girls suddenly stepped out of the car. The women were too flashy, showing more skin than they should have. A blonde lady said, "Hey Damien. We had fun last week. How about we have fun tonight?" "What the hell? I don't know you!" Damien barked.
"Get out of here!" He moved closer and whispered through gritted teeth, "Didn't | tell you not to come? | have visitors!" Caesar became confused, but his eyes landed on the two women behind Damien. When Caesar finally had an awakening, he motioned for his companions to get into the car, and they left. "I'm sorry, I'm going to call the police and report this matter," Damien said to the social workers. As if on cue, sirens began to blare. Cora motioned toward the street. "No need to call.
Here they are." ---- Damien, "..." Heartbeats later, a police officer soon stood before Damien, handing him a paper. "We received a tip that you have narcotics hidden in your house. This is a warrant for the search." 'Fuck!' he screamed. He couldn't believe this was happening! Turning to the social workers, he explained, "I'm being set up. This has to be Jacob Steel's doing! This has to be! He doesn't want me to have custody of Angela!" Damien grew nervous. He began barking at the police who. entered his house. "Are you going to plant evidence?
There are surveillance cameras all around my house! You won't find any drugs!" But the police did not search his home. Instead, they went straight to the backyard, drained the pool, and began inspecting each tiled floor. 'Fuck, no. No!' Damien thought. 'No! How did they find out?' The water was a great barrier when it came to scents. Narcotics-trained dogs would not have picked up the scent of illegal substances. However, with the water gone, the secrets he had been hiding for many years were now out in the open.
The police found fifty kilograms of illegal substances, buried beneath the tiled floors. Hours later, when his uncle came to his rescue at the police station, Edmund said, "Don't worry. We will stand by what you said to the police. You were set up, plain and simple. This won' t affect the case to get Angela. The legal principle is that a person is presumed innocent until proven guilty. You can still be released on bail and attend the next hearing."
