---- Chapter 133: Nothing Would Change ~ Calum ~ Monday. "Based on his assistant's records, Marvin pocketed around a billion dollars over the last two years," Calum reported to the board of directors, and immediately, everyone erupted into chaos. "You let this happen under your watch, Calum? How could you have missed this?" "I'm sorry to say this, but Calum is not the only one to blame; the entire Montclair family is!" "We feel like we have been robbed of our rightful profit shares! "Marvin's assistant has only been working for him for the last two years.

What about the years prior?" Calum stood before the shareholders, trying to control his anger. This was the main reason he hated selling shares to outsiders. He felt that the equity holders were too entitled, forgetting that, despite the alarming situation, he was still the major stakeholder of the company. He wished his friend, Jacob, were around. He would back him up for sure. Sadly, Jacob was out of the country on a business trip. "| have ordered the external accountants to look deeper-go up to five years of our book of accounts,' Calum said.

"Then, we will know soon." When one shareholder slammed his hand against the table, ---- Calum pointed, "Every business has its risks. This incident will not change the fact that | have expanded the Montclair Group's businesses and brought in over fifty billion dollars of profit over the last five years." "Before you question my shortcomings, look into what | have contributed first!" Calum shot back. "If you are worried about the lost money, we will see how much we can recover from my uncle and his family.

After that, we can rediscuss this again." For now, Calum had silenced the board members. But worry lingered in him. If something far worse were to strike the company, neither his position, his shares, nor his last name might be enough to protect him. After the meeting, his parents stayed to discuss an important matter with him. Only the three of them were left in the conference room. "Calum, the truth is, we had started to doubt your uncle. That was the reason why we had changed the accounting firm to do the external audit," Cedric revealed.

He showed Calum photos of Marvin going in and out of casinos, along with copies of the deeds of sale to the Rowans'' properties. "We have reason to believe that Marvin is a gambling addict. He had sold many of their properties over the years, and... we may not be able to recover what has been lost." When he heard that, he thought his world was spinning. A billion dollars was a lot of money... and his uncle could have taken more than what had already been discovered. But... that wasn't the biggest blow.

Cedric and Amanda looked at each other before his father ---- handed him more pieces of evidence from his laptop bag. " Now that you know Marvin's true nature, we thought you should know... Calum, we have reason to believe that Marvin and his family may have orchestrated the drugging incident seven years ago." Everything happened fast after that morning. In the afternoon, an arrest warrant was issued for Marvin Rowan. Calum and his parents received multiple calls and texts from the Rowans-his aunt and cousins-begging him for mercy. However, Calum ignored them all.

In fact, he ignored his phone throughout the day. His mind could only think of one thing: 'What if the evidence in his parents' hands was true? And if so, that meant... Soraya had been innocent all along?' It wasn't just that. Soraya might not only be innocent, but she could have spared him from the cruel possibility of contracting a serious disease. He felt guilty. He remembered how, despite everything, Soraya had still come to help him with the company. 'Did that mean Soraya still cared about me?' Unfortunately, nothing in his state would change.

Soraya and Calum had already divorced, and Rose? She was pregnant with his unborn child. He couldn't abandon his child for a marriage he had never invested in, not like Rose, in whom he had poured so much of his time and himself. Still, his guilt was starting to eat him up. Later, when Calum arrived at his home, he went straight to ---- Sage's room. Sage was drawing in her sketchbook, a skill she had picked up from Rose. His daughter was sketching dresses, smiling and unaware of the ongoing mess outside their home. "Hi, Daddy," Sage said. "Isn't Aunt Rose with you?" Calum shook his head.

Rose had been disappointed with her relaunch and thought maybe Cedar Heights was not her market. She had left for the capital the other day in the hopes of organizing her very first runway show. He and Rose still had to talk seriously about the Rowans, but she already knew to avoid Claire and Roger. "No, Sage. She is away," Calum responded, sitting on the chair across from his daughter. "There's something | need to tell you." "What is it, Daddy?" Sage asked, smiling. "How would you like for your Aunt Rose to be permanently your mother?" Calum asked.

"Permanently?" Sage raised a brow, confused. "Well, Soraya will always be your mother-" "But Aunt Rose said last time that Mommy did something bad," Sage interrupted. Calum felt another headache coming his way. He said, "No, we were mistaken." "What do you mean, Daddy?" Sage asked, frowning. "Someone mistook your mommy for someone else. Your mommy did not do anything bad like we thought she did," Calum revealed. "And we are sorry that we forced you to stop ---- talking to her." "So, she didn't steal anyone's family?" Sage asked, and Calum frowned.

'Was that how Rose had explained it?' Then again, he couldn't figure out a better way to explain it to Sage. Maybe that was the only way Rose could say it. Still, he made a mental note to talk to Rose about it. "No," Calum responded. "Your mommy did not steal someone else's family. We made a mistake. | apologized to your mom, and Rose will apologize to her too." When Sage's frown deepened, Calum assured her, "You can speak to your mom on Wednesday.

For now, what | wanted to talk to you about is how your mommy and | have permanently separated." "What this means is, your mommy will never come back here. Instead, your Aunt Rose will start to live with us," Calum added. "She will be your new mom, or your second mom. She will be the one to take care of you from now on." "Mommy won't... see me anymore?" Sage asked, her eyes looking a little hurt. "She will still see you, but only to visit," Calum said. "Things won't be the same as they used to. In fact, you probably noticed that it hasn't been for months. But change is not always a bad thing.

It could be better. You'll have Rose as your new mom. Didn't you always love Rose?" "I do. | do like Aunt Rose. I-" Sage looked down and said, "I guess | just miss Mom." "Don't worry," Calum said, pushing back a strand of Sage's hair ---- behind her ear. "And you'll get to talk on Wednesday." But when Wednesday came, Soraya did not follow through. Calum's new impression of Soraya turned into disappointment. Even Sage felt it. After all, what could be more important than their daughter?
