Chapter 208: Daddy Needs Me
~ Sage ~
‘Angela isn't so bad after all’ Sage thought, looking at her new
younger sister. ‘She's just so quiet, though.’
Two days had passed since Sage had been doing her
schoolwork at her mommy's house. So far, she had been
spending her afternoons with Angela.
Their parents were always in meetings, including Sage's dad.
But her father would take his conference calls at the hotel,
whereas their mommy would take hers in the study. Her Uncle
Jacob was often out, something about a plant inspection.
‘She is different’ Sage thought while observing Angela
arrange her colored pens from the lightest to the darkest color.
Sage had also noticed that Angela was very sensitive to light
and sound.
It was raining cats and dogs outside, and as the downpour
grew stronger, Angela became uneasy.
“T hate thunder,” Angela shared.
Sage looked at her and said, “We're okay if we're inside.”
But just then, a very loud thunderclap rang through the sky.
“Abhh!" Angela screamed and hid beneath the table. “Mommy!
Mommy!”
Sage turned toward the study, but Soraya looked like she was
still in a meeting. So, she crawled under the table with Angela
and rubbed her back. “It's okay. We're safe here.”
She helped cover Angela's ears.
----
She remembered how Soraya had done the same the other
day when a frying pan fell in the kitchen.
“It's okay, Angela. It's okay,” Sage said softly.
Eventually, when the thunder passed, Angela calmed down.
Sage hadn't realized they were already hugging each other.
“Kids? Sage? Angela?” Soraya called. Sage could hear the
panic in her mommy's voice.
“We're here, Mom,” Sage called back.
“Kids, | cannot, for the love of God, bend,” Soraya said.
Sage ended up laughing. She helped Angela out from under
the table and said, “Angela was scared of the thunder.”
Soraya cupped Sage's cheek. “Thank you for being a big sis."
Then she paused, asking, “Sage, about your dad...”
Sage looked at her mother gently. She knew why she was
asking. She turned to Angela, who was now hugging Soraya,
and then back to her mother. “Mommy, | think Daddy needs
me. I'll go back with him to Cedar Heights, but | promise I'll
visit you again. I'll ask Daddy to take me, or Grandpa, or
Grandma.”
“It's okay,” Soraya said. “Even if you don't get to visit, |
understand. You're still a kid. But promise to call me now and
then.”
“Yes, Mommy,” Sage said.
“After | give birth, I'll surely visit you,” Soraya said with a smile.
Sage figured her dad was having too many troubles lately. He
was also regretting losing her mommy. She felt it was best

that she stay with her Daddy Calum for now.
----
As for permanently living with her mom? Sage was still unsure.
Maybe it would take another visit or getting to know Angela
and her Uncle Jacob more. Right now, she opted to live with
her father and paternal grandparents. In any case, she still
needed to resume her studies back home.

Melvin and Luke had long left, but the Montclairs stayed for
another two days. It gave Jacob time to take them out to see
Burnell, and at the same time, rekindle that awkward
friendship between Calum and Jacob.
They were talking now. Every now and then, Calum would fall
quiet, but Soraya could tell he was trying his best to be
respectful and civil.
Upon their return to Cedar Heights, Jacob would be flying
back with them. He also had business to attend to, while
Calum had an annulment to file.
Silas had happily agreed to find evidence for Calum, but he
charged a five-hundred-thousand-dollar professional fee.
Calum, of course, had no choice but to pay up.
Avan was ready to take everyone to Wexford City.
They all met at the villa.
“I'm going to miss you,” Amanda said, hugging Soraya.
“Goodbye, Mom,” Soraya said.
When she said that, she noticed Calum turn to her, looking
emotional. But he quickly averted his gaze.
“Dad,” Soraya said, embracing Cedric.
----
“Have you thought of the names?” Cedric asked.
Soraya and Jacob looked at each other. She said, “We haven't
decided.”
“| want Aiden!” Angela said.
Sage's eyes lit up. She offered, “What about Sawyer?”
The adults laughed, including Calum. The kids were choosing
baby names based on their own initials.
Jacob nodded, looking at the kids. “Aiden and Sawyer, it is!”
“Yay!” Angela jumped for joy, while Sage smiled.
“Thank you, Uncle Jacob,” Sage said.
“No, thank you, Sage,” Jacob replied with a smile.
“Well, we'd better go,” Jacob said, checking the time. “We can’
tbe late for our flight.”
Jacob kissed Soraya on the lips. “Bye, honey. Love you.”
“Love you too,” Soraya said back.
Then, Soraya turned to Sage.
Her daughter was teary-eyed again.
Sage hugged her and said, “I'll miss you, Mommy.”
“I'll miss you too,” Soraya said, leaning down to kiss Sage’s
forehead. “I love you very much.”
Sage ultimately cried, answering, “I love you too, Mommy.”
“Did you bring your extra cake?” Soraya asked, trying to divert
her daughter's attention.
Sage nodded.
“Remember, don't eat too many sweets,” Soraya said. “Say
----
goodbye to your sister now.”
Before Sage could speak, Angela hugged her outright. “Bye,
big sis!” Angela said.
Angela's embrace was so sincere and her smile so bright that
Sage couldn't help but smile too.
“Take care of Mommy, Angela,” Sage said.
“L will” Angela said proudly.
All the adults looked at the two and were very pleased with
how the visit turned out. It wasn't perfect yet, but they were
getting there.
Soraya still didn't know what would become of her and Jacob’
s relationship with Calum, but with the way Cedric and
Amanda treated her, she wondered if, someday, the
Montclairs might truly become part of their family.
Only time would tell.

~ Calum ~
A week passed
“Dr. Guilbert,” Calum greeted evenly, handing over a folded
document. He came to the hospital with his lawyer.
“This is a subpoena," the lawyer said. "We're requesting the
complete medical records of my wife, Rose Montclair. We're in
the middle of an annulment case, and | need all test results,
treatment notes, and interdepartmental communications.”
“Finally, the doctor said. "It took you a while, Mr. Montclair.
Please follow me to my office. Let me give you all the pieces
of evidence you need."
