---- Chapter 230: I'm Good ~ Soraya ~ What followed next was a celebration after celebration. Calum and Jacob's new appointments came first, then another celebration party for Aegis Core Systems. In a press conference, Silas Ward had recently announced how Aegis Core Systems exceeded eighty billion dollars in revenue for that year. That same press release was aired in over thirty media outlets across the country.

It featured Silas standing at the podium, microphone in hand, wearing his usual charming smile as he declared, "We owe this rapid climb to our latest breakthrough in cybersecurity technology. While we cannot disclose specifics or provide a project-by-project breakdown, we can assure you that our defense and intelligence partnerships have grown significantly. Aegis Core Systems is now one of the most influential forces in the nation's security-tech landscape." This was because Helix Guardian was a top-secret project. Any public disclosure could compromise the nation's military defenses.

Yet the project was a success. Soraya and her team had personally visited the central military command base in Fort Vanguard, overseeing the deployment and verifying that every system met the highest operational standards. Now, with Helix Guardian fully operational across all military defenses, Aegis Core Systems received its final installment of the project's payment. The party was held at the Prima Hotel's grand ballroom. All of Aegis Core Systems' clients, friends, and families of the board and executives were invited. This included the ---- Montclair Group and the Azar Investment Firm.

"Congratulations again, Soraya," Amanda greeted. Standing next to Amanda, Cedric turned to Jacob and added, " You must be very proud." In his seat, Jacob put his arm around Soraya, admitting, "I'm very proud." "We are all proud of Silas and Soraya," Philip said, sitting across from Soraya and Jacob. Emily sat beside him, beaming. "And I'm the proudest mother-in-law,' Veronica claimed. Jacob's mother attended because she wanted to see what Soraya and Silas had achieved for Aegis Core Systems.

The children, including Sage, were in the care of their caregivers in one of the suites in the same hotel. It was one way for Soraya and Jacob to keep a close watch on their kids while attending the party. Calum, who had reluctantly come to the party, expressed, " Aegis Core Systems has come very far in just the shortest amount of time." "Right now, there's no industry more promising than technology," Silas said, seated beside Jacob.

Then he frowned at Jacob, correcting himself, "Of course, if you have a well-established construction company, you can never go wrong." Laughter echoed around their table, including Lyra's. She happened to be seated next to Silas. Soraya laughed inwardly at Silas's sudden eagerness to cozy up to Jacob. "Good job on getting the reins again, Calum," Silas said with a faint grin. "Now let's hope your inner accountant is as sharp as your instinct for running a corporation. Lessons learned the hard way, right?" ---- Soraya pursed her lips. She watched as Calum's face turned red.

Even Cedric feared how his son would react, but to everyone's surprise, Calum answered, "Yeah. Sure. Sometimes you have to make mistakes to learn a few things." Calum's voice turned sharp as he added, "Thanks for the advice, Silas." Soraya was a bit worried, but when Amanda and Cedric took their seats at the next table with Calum, Jacob said to Soraya, Don't worry about it. Calum isn't as prideful as he used to be." The party featured plenty of entertainment, but the main focus was keeping clients satisfied and reminding them that Aegis Core Systems was still the best in security solutions.

In between, Silas and Arvind Sharma spoke about what was to come for the company. They covered upcoming projects that could be disclosed to the public. While all that was happening, Soraya took the chance to speak to Calum in private. On one occasion, he walked up to the bar on the side of the venue and fetched a glass of whisky. "hope you are not drinking too much, for Sage's sake," Soraya said. Calum looked at her and then searched around. When he spotted Jacob glancing at them, it was as if he confirmed that Soraya's approach was preapproved by the man himself. "No," Calum shook his head.

"Just this once." "Did you get money back from Rose?" Soraya asked. Calum nodded. "I got roughly two billion dollars back. Rose sold her main boutique, and Axel Davis reimbursed some of the prepaid material costs. She and Axel are getting married, | believe." ---- Soraya's mouth fell open. She couldn't believe her ears. Rose was getting married? Again? "Wow," she commended. "Rose moved on quicker." "Not really,' Calum said, sipping his whisky while standing up. " You moved on faster." "Did 1?" Soraya asked, massaging the back of her neck.

Her face burned as she spotted Jacob, looking so handsome in his suit. "Well, you can't blame me." "Of course not," Calum said, hissing as he took another drink. "You should move on too, Calum," Soraya suggested. "Go back to the dating pool." Calum sucked in a deep breath. He looked past the tables and chairs, his brows meeting. "I think-I think I'm good, Soraya." For a brief second, it looked as if Calum's eyes were on the verge of tears, but the moment he inhaled, the expression vanished, replaced by his usual calm composure.

"I'm just happy that Sage decided to stay with me." He turned to her, saying, "And | hope you won't hate me for saying that." "No." Soraya shook her head. "I understand her choices. She needs you as much as you need her." Silence stretched between them for seconds. "I'm starting to see relationships as very traumatic," Calum declared. "I think, from now on, | will focus on giving my love only to my daughter." "But, Calum-" Soraya tried to reason with him. However, Calum firmly said, "I'm good, Soraya. I'm good. Thank you for your concern. For me, it's enough that Sage has one mother.

That's all she needs." Calum motioned to Jacob. "You'd better get back to Jacob. ---- He is giving me that death glare." Actually, no. Jacob wasn't giving him a death glare, but Soraya understood. Calum didn't want to talk about it further. She let out a sigh, saying, "Whatever you think is best, Calum. A piece of advice? Love yourself again, despite your past mistakes; that's where it usually starts. That's how | got through it." As Soraya slipped away, she glanced back at Calum. He was alone with his drink and alone with his thoughts. Clearly, he wasn't ready.

Maybe he wouldn't be for a long time. People healed differently. Some rebuilt. Some hid. Some stayed stuck until the world forced them to move. Soraya hoped Calum would choose the first. But whether he would rise or remain trapped by his own regrets... only time could answer that.
