Chapter 96: Callie eventually chose a wedding dress and didn't bring up the topic again. She disappeared into the fitting room, leaving Nyla outside to wait. As she sat in the plush waiting area, Nyla's gaze fell on the pristine wedding gown displayed nearby. To say she didn't long for it would've been a lie. She'd often imagined herself in a wedding dress, radiant and happy, walking toward Ethan. But now, here she was, accompanying Ethan's future wife as she tried on wedding dresses. The irony wasn't lost on her. With a soft swish, the fitting room curtain opened.
When Callie stepped out, the room seemed to hold its breath. The strapless gown hugged her figure perfectly, and the voluminous skirt gave her a regal, princess-like air. A delicate crown sparkled atop her head, and the diamond embellishments on the bodice caught the light beautifully. Even Nyla, despite her bitterness, couldn't find a single flaw. Quietly, she watched Callie, her mind conjuring an image of Ethan and Callie standing together on a grand wedding stage, exchanging vows and rings. A sharp pang of bitterness welled up inside her. Callie had achieved her goal.
"Do I look good?" Callie asked, holding the skirt of her dress as she walked toward Nyla. Her voice was sweet, but the pride in her tone was unmistakable. Nyla... Caught in her thoughts, Nyla was slow to respond. She nodded without much thought, failing to detect the undercurrent in Callie's words. Then Callie leaned down, her voice soft but laced with malice as she whispered in Nyla's ear, "So, does it hurt? You like Ethan, don't you?" Nyla was rooted to the spot, motionless. At that instant, everything clicked into place.

Masking her sorrow, she subtly lowered her eyes and rose, putting space between herself and Callie. "You're mistaken-I have no feelings for Ethan." Callie examined Nyla's face, clearly unsatisfied with what she saw. "Is that so?" Discover fresh tales on gαℓησνs․çо "What if I demanded you leave Crestwave Group?" Even though Nyla denied having feelings for Ethan, Callie's instincts told her that she couldn't let Nyla stay close to him. "Discuss that with Ethan then," Nyla said. "You can just step down voluntarily," Callie quickly replied.
The tension in the shop escalated sharply, compelling the normally attentive staff to keep their distance. Facing Callie's piercing gaze, Nyla felt a surge of rebellion. "Ethan himself asked me to work at Crestwave Group for a while. He might not agree even if I voluntarily resign." Callie's laugh was scornful. "So, you think you're one of Ethan's trusted insiders?" Nyla held her silence. The standoff continued, with neither willing to yield. Callie, acting gracious, turned away nonchalantly to admire herself in the mirror, her voice cool.
"Whether or not you harbor any feelings for Ethan, he's not going to marry you. Your duty is to follow his wishes and join me in selecting a wedding gown. You're merely here to bear witness to our love." . . .
