Chapter 223: Nyla had been busy lately, and so had Ethan. With Ethan handling international collaborations, he was often away from home. Nyla understood, but each time she returned to an empty bedroom, a wave of loneliness would wash over her. She couldn't quite explain it. Holding her phone, she stared blankly at the screen for what felt like an eternity. Finally, she wandered out to the garden, settling onto the swing with her tablet in hand. She had reclaimed the tablet from Cloudscape Mansion and knew Callie was staying there under the Brooks family's arrangement-not Ethan's.

Her gaze flickered over the finalized list on the screen, though her thoughts were elsewhere-Ethan. She let out a deep sigh, then lightly slapped her cheeks, as if trying to snap herself out of it. She reminded herself over and over that it was just a business trip; it wasn't like he was cheating. Inside, Hana was tidying the living room when she noticed Nyla sitting in the garden. Setting her work aside, she walked over. Seeing her approach, Nyla assumed Hana was there to scold her. "Hana, I'll head back upstairs soon. Don't worry, I'm not feeling unwell right now," Nyla said quickly.

Hana gave a small, resigned smile. "I didn't mean that. I just wanted to come talk to you." Nyla blinked in surprise, then offered a faint smile. "Hana, I wish you were my mother," she said softly. If Hana were her mother, maybe someone would notice her emotions, care about how she was feeling. Even if she were sitting alone, someone would think of her. She hesitated to touch Nyla's hair, mindful of the line between them as employer and employee. To Hana, Nyla reminded her of Zaylee-cheerful and kind on the surface but fragile underneath. Zaylee, too, had once been unable to withstand the harsh realities of the world. Nyla was strong, yet vulnerable. She rarely let others see that side of her, but Hana couldn't help feeling sympathy for her. "There's no difference in status. We're all equal," Nyla insisted, shaking her head. "You're amazing, Hana.

I mean it-I really like you." Vicki, on the other hand, always acted like she knew what was best for Nyla, pushing her to do things she didn't want to do. Unable to resist, Hana gently patted Nyla's head. "I think you should lean on Ethan a bit more. Don't make things so hard on yourself. I know he's not the most expressive man, but I can tell he truly loves you. You're scared-I see it. For yourself, and for the baby, you need to try and relax." . . .
