Chapter 155: Out loud, she simply said, "They must pay." "I didn't expect someone as composed as you to have such a ruthless streak. No wonder I find you intriguing," Murray said, crossing his arms, his tone light and teasing despite the gravity of Nyla's earlier words. Nyla chuckled, genuinely amused. A faint smile played at her lips. "Honestly, if I'd met you first, I might have said yes to you." Murray clutched his chest dramatically. "No need to break my heart again." "Alright, my bad," Nyla replied, a little embarrassed as she rubbed the bridge of her nose.
Murray wasn't actually offended-his performance was all for show. After wrapping up her questioning, Nyla prepared to leave. Murray assured her he'd keep an eye on Jaxton, and she nodded gratefully, choosing not to press him further. As she reached the door, Murray's gentle voice stopped her. "Don't put me on a pedestal. She couldn't quite grasp what he meant.

"He owed a fortune at the Wheeler family's casino and couldn't pay it back, so they grabbed him," he replied. Callie tilted her head, puzzled. "Jaxton's taken so much money from us over the years. Why didn't he come to us this time? Murray's clearly helping someone investigate something." Brevard glanced at her, a faint smile tugging at his lips.
"You really are more suited to be the heir than your brother," he said, pouring the coffee with satisfaction. "Murray is helping Nyla." Callie shot to her feet, her fists clenched. "Nyla again. Do you think Jaxton will give her the recording? We should have dealt with him years ago. He's been a liability for too long. Should we get rid of him now?" Her voice trembled with frustration, her face tight with indignation. Why Nyla? Why did everyone seem so willing to help her? Callie hated it. Brevard set a steaming cup of coffee in front of her and sighed. "You need to learn patience." . . .
