"I understand," Callie said, her voice steady, though a storm of discomfort churned beneath the surface. Once Nyla had finalized the compensation terms with Lisbeth, she and Candy exited the reception room, leaving Callie with her thoughts. "Terminate me?" she asked, the words barely escaping her lips in disbelief. "Yes. But before that, you'd better find a way to limit the damage to the company," Lisbeth replied, her voice dripping with disdain. Callie stared at her, eyes wide. She knew the fault lay at her feet, but being fired seemed like an overreaction. While she didn't desperately need the job, Crestwave Group had been her only thread to staying close to Ethan. "Last month, when I was abroad, I spoke to my mentor about those awards of yours. He'd never heard of them. Need me to go on?" Callie fell into stunned silence, the weight of Lisbeth's words sinking in. Lisbeth had no intention of dragging this on. Though she disliked Callie's pretentiousness, she wasn't about to stir up unnecessary trouble, especially considering Callie had been brought in by Ethan. But she wouldn't hesitate to inform him of the situation. After Lisbeth left, Callie was left alone in her office, her mood as dark as a storm cloud.
