Chapter 470: Injuries weren't new to him; she had even learned how to dress wounds during their time together. But never before had she seen him so gravely hurt. "He's stable now and should regain consciousness by morning," the attending doctor reassured her in a calm voice. Nyla nodded, her voice steady despite the turmoil inside. "Thank you." The following day, Nyla found herself bringing her work from the office to the hospital. She hadn't anticipated that as soon as she stepped into the ward, she would see Ethan already awake. To her surprise, he was propped up against the headboard.
His speedy recovery was nothing short of remarkable. "You're awake? Do you need something to eat?" she asked casually, as though she were his caregiver. Ethan fixed his gaze on her, then shifted his eyes to the laptop in her hands, speaking in a slightly hoarse voice. "Where's Jackson?" "Jackson went to take care of some business." Nyla moved to the sofa bed, set her laptop down, placed the coffee she had picked up on the table, and prepared to dive into her work. "Did Jackson ask you to look after me? You..." Ethan leaned back against the bed, his words fading mid-sentence.
Worried that he might faint if he spoke too much after just waking up, Nyla quickly cut him off. "I told him I'd take care of you for three days, so save your energy. If you're hungry, knock on the table to let me know." Ethan tapped the table without hesitation. Nyla's fingers froze on the keyboard. She glanced up at him. "The doctor said you can only eat something light. I'll go get you some oatmeal." Find more books at gⱯlnσνls․com Ethan reclined against the headboard and gave a slight nod. Nyla got to her feet and headed out to buy the oatmeal.

Somehow, a nagging feeling crept in-she wondered if she had been tricked. Other than his pale complexion and slight frailty, Ethan appeared far too calm and at ease. When she returned with the oatmeal and set it down on the table beside him, Ethan tapped the table again. "What now? Do you want more food?" Nyla asked, her confusion evident. Ethan gestured toward his injured shoulder, then glanced at the oatmeal. "You'll have to feed me." Nyla stood frozen for a moment, utterly taken aback. Had she just been played? Eventually, Nyla gave in and started to feed Ethan with a spoon.
She did so not out of any sentimental obligation but simply because she had committed to taking care of him for three days. "Fifty thousand a day. That's what I'm charging you to look after you. Make sure you pay it, Mr. Brooks," Nyla said sharply as she set the bowl down. Ethan was silent but motioned for Nyla to check her phone, picking up his own from beside him. With a wary glance at Ethan, Nyla retrieved her phone without delay. After all, rejecting money would be a foolish decision. Besides, Ethan was the last person anyone would expect to be short on cash. . . .
