Chapter 224: Nyla's resolve crumbled, and she hugged Hana tightly. The feelings she had buried for so long came pouring out. It was true. She was terrified. Terrified that all of this might be a lie. Terrified that Ethan only married her because of the child. Terrified that all her sacrifices had been for nothing. And most of all, terrified of losing everything. If she'd never had it, she wouldn't fear losing it. Life would have gone on, and she'd keep chasing the truth. But things were different now. She was living a fairy tale. If she lost it all, she wasn't sure she'd survive.
Her phone suddenly rang, cutting through her thoughts. She glanced at the screen-Ethan. Hana, noticing, covered her mouth with a knowing smile. "Ah, it seems he knows what he should do. I was worried you'd suffer a lot in this relationship if he was clueless..." Nyla's cheeks flushed, and Hana wisely stepped back, leaving her to take the call. Ethan's familiar voice came through. "What are you doing?" "I've been missing you," Nyla blurted out. Ethan stayed quiet. The silence pressed down on Nyla like an overcast sky before a storm, and she regretted her impulsiveness almost immediately.

Jackson stood nearby, shuffling through documents, witnessing an unusual playfulness in his typically stoic boss's voice.
The question carried an unmistakable undercurrent of hope, as if her refusal might genuinely disappoint Ethan. Nyla's heart fluttered. Was this his way of reciprocating her feelings, or was she reading too much into it? "Can't you? Didn't you say you were missing me? Don't you want to see me sooner?" The words rushed from Ethan's mouth, so unlike his usual measured speech. His eyebrows arched with a hint of playful arrogance, drawing an amused chuckle from Jackson. Nyla curled into herself, overwhelmed by a wave of shyness. . . .
