Chapter 192: Bonnie's eyes narrowed, assessing the scene. He wasn't just putting on a performance-he seemed genuine. "What about the Brooks family?" she challenged. "They've never been fond of Nyla. Who's to say they won't make her life miserable?" "They won't," Ethan replied simply. His grip on Nyla's hand remained steady. "She won't be living at the Brooks family residence, and no one will demand it-or dare to." Nyla blinked, astonished. Was this really Ethan? "Are you saying this because I'm here?" Bonnie asked, half-skeptical.
"Miss Olson, I don't need to say these things just for your benefit," Ethan replied, his tone unyielding. Bonnie gritted her teeth, caught off guard but refusing to back down. "Well, Mr. Brooks, your reputation does precede you. You're known for keeping your word. But let me make one thing clear-if you don't take good care of Nyla..." She reached into her bag and pulled out her phone, holding it up with a triumphant smirk. "What you've said today will spread like wildfire through Ulares." She turned the phone toward him. The screen revealed a recording in progress.

Sure enough, Bonnie was always prepared. Ethan didn't stop Bonnie, offering instead a casual, unconcerned smile that danced across his features. Bonnie shifted uncomfortably at his nonchalant demeanor, switching off the recording and tucking her phone away. The conversation had held Nyla spellbound, but now an awkward silence descended, prompting her to break it. "Ahem, um... Bonnie, why don't you stay for dinner? We could invite Austen too." Your favorite tales live at gⱯlnσνs. Bonnie's lips curved into a thoughtful expression as she rose, retrieving her phone.
"I'll call him and see what he thinks." As Nyla watched Bonnie drift toward the floor-to-ceiling window, awareness suddenly struck her-her hand rested in Ethan's warm palm. The realization jolted through her. When had that happened? She attempted to withdraw her hand, but Ethan's grip only tightened. "Feel that? Your hand is freezing," Ethan murmured, his voice rich with warmth. Heat bloomed across Nyla's cheeks, spreading through her entire body as her palm began to dampen. "Well... you don't have to hold it for so long, Ethan. I'm not cold," she breathed, melting against him.
Her shy response drew Ethan's smile. "I beg to differ. You still feel cold to me," he declared, drawing her into his embrace, his warmth seeping through to her waist and abdomen. "Wait, Bonnie is still here." Nyla's face blazed. Despite their more intimate moments, these tender gestures never failed to make her heart flutter. . . .
