Chapter 1277: Allison looked down at her hands and realized that her wrists and ankles were bound by golden manacles. She was, quite literally, a bird trapped in a golden cage.
She could tell from a glance that this setup was meticulously planned, and had likely been in the works for a long time. Verruckt was a maniac like that. He had truly thought long and hard about the execution of his revenge.
Allison surveyed her surroundings and paused. Not only was her abdomen carefully bandaged, but it seemed like her bullet wound had been properly treated too.
But she was all alone in the room. Her curiosity was piqued. Who saved her, treated her, and took her here? Why was no one around? What did this cage mean? As if on cue, the door on the far side opened, and a maid walked in. She paused in her tracks as her gaze met Allison's.
"You're finally awake, Ms. Clarke."
The maid was holding a tray containing a glass of water and some pills. She placed the tray on a table just outside the cage.
"It's time to take your medicine."
Allison didn't move. "What is this place?"
Her words came out in a croak. It had probably been days since she had last spoken. "Where is Verruckt?"

The maid's eyes flashed with fear at the mention of Verruckt's name.
"Well… This is his residence, Ms. Clarke. He brought you here." She didn't dare say much more and prodded Allison gently, "Please take these, they are anti-inflammatory pills."
Allison glanced at the pills, her face blank. After confirming for herself that they were safe, she swallowed them with a large gulp of water. For now, her health was her priority. It just bothered her that she had no idea how long she had been unconscious or what was happening at Aröme Tower.

No sooner had Allison finished drinking the glass of water than the door opened again. A man in a tailored black suit walked in.
"You're here, Mr. Shaw." The maid took the glass from Allison's hands, grabbed the tray, and left as discreetly as she could.
She had come to learn that Allison was one of Verruckt's enemies, yet, for some inexplicable reason, she also felt that Allison was somehow special to Verruckt. Otherwise, he wouldn't have asked her to take such good care of his so-called captive. If it was true revenge he was after, he could have just ended Allison's life as soon as he got her.
The door clicked shut behind the maid, and Allison leaned back against the headboard.
"You're still alive," she said to Verruckt, her gaze cold and perhaps a little hostile. She was openly provoking him, and Verruckt instantly realized it.
"Of course. I said I would find you, didn't I?" Verruckt's eyes were icy and calculating, much like a predator that had zeroed in on its prey. "I've been lying in wait all this time. Imagine my surprise when you suddenly turned up in Vrining. I didn't expect you to be so brazen."
He produced a key from his pocket and opened the cage. Then, he slowly approached the bed. "We finally meet again, Allison."
"Just kill me. Or whatever it is you were planning to do," Allison turned her head away, not wanting to look at him, but Verruckt grabbed her by the jaw and forced her to stare into his eyes.
