Chapter 1148: Allison raised her glass of champagne with casual ease, giving it a gentle swirl.
The subtle fragrance that rose from the drink caught her attention instantly, thanks to her sharp sense of smell.
It didn't take long for her to sense something was wrong.
Just as she suspected, Melany was up to something. "'Of course I am,'" Melany responded quickly, her tone defensive.
She couldn't help but glance down at the wine in Allison's hand, silently willing her to drink it soon.
Meanwhile, she kept her smile tight, even though it was laced with bitterness.
She took a sip of her orange juice, as though to make it seem like she was perfectly at ease. "'I promise I won't cause you any more problems, Ms. Clarke,'" Melany added, her voice now smooth and calm. "'Let's forget about everything and move on.'"
When Melany spoke, her eyes shimmered with unshed tears, and they painted a picture of regret, her remorse so vivid that it seemed to pulse in the air.
She clung to her glass with a quiet determination, as though the weight of it might force her to kneel if Allison refused.
At that moment, she looked as fragile as glass, as if any wrong word might shatter her.
Allison let out a scoff, a sound like wind through brittle branches.
"'I'll give you one chance,'" she said, her words laced with a quiet storm. "'Miss Johnson, if your apology is sincere, keep your distance from now on. Push your luck, and you might find yourself in a worse position than before.'"

Allison's gaze sharpened. The wine, she knew, had been tampered with.
But the contents? They didn't concern her.

She was always one to turn the tables - use their own game against them.
If Melany sensibly chose to walk away, Allison would let her go, no strings attached.
But Melany, with an innocent look, countered, "'Ms. Clarke, if I drink the juice, and you take the wine, we can leave our past behind. We'll hold no more grudges against each other, okay?'"
With that, Melany drained the juice in one swift motion, as though to demonstrate her sincerity.
Now, it was Allison's turn.
A flutter of nerves tightened Melany's chest. This was uncharted territory for her. What if her scheme crumbled?
But she quickly silenced the doubts.
The drug was colorless and odorless once mixed into the wine - she had personally verified it.
And since the wine hadn't been handed to Allison by Melany herself but by a waiter, it covered her tracks. Suspicion would be minimal. Melany held her breath, her pulse quickening as Allison smiled and locked eyes with her.
"'No problem,'" Allison said, her voice as smooth as velvet.
Allison took a delicate sip from the champagne flute.
"'Miss Johnson, now that the air is cleared, I trust you'll stick to your word,'" she remarked.
