Chapter 1204: Melany, however, seemed lost in thought.
"If they're heading to Vrining for business, intercepting that deal could lead to a significant payoff."
The weight of the information wasn't lost on her. She was about to inform Colton, but her musings were abruptly interrupted by Lindy's sharp voice ringing from upstairs.
"Where on earth is everyone? My head is killing me!" Immediately after, a series of hurried footsteps echoed on the stairs, and all the servants rushed to Lindy's bedroom.
"Madam, would you like a painkiller?" the butler ventured cautiously, already retreating toward the door. "I'll fetch it immediately."
Lindy, her hand pressed against her temple, shot him an icy glare.
"Painkillers? How many times do I have to say those useless things never work on me?"
She shot a withering look around the room.
"And why is it just you here? Where's Melany? That girl's been freeloading off the Stevens family without lifting a finger!"
Her irritation with Melany had been simmering for months, kept at bay only by the pregnancy. If not for the baby, she would've thrown Melany out long ago.

The fiasco at Fabian's birthday party only cemented Lindy's belief that Melany couldn't hold a candle to Allison.
For the past three years, Allison had been the perfect daughter-in-law-meek, obedient, and endlessly accommodating. She always put Lindy's needs first, offering her the best of everything without complaint. But who could have predicted the transformation after her divorce? Allison had emerged from the shadows a completely different woman-bold and unapologetic.
The butler swallowed hard and nodded timidly.

"I'll go find her right away," he said, retreating from Lindy's glare.
When Lindy's migraines struck, the household braced itself. She expected every family member to orbit around her, dropping whatever they were doing to tend to her needs. Anyone late to the party faced her wrath.
The butler scurried off, his nerves jangling like loose wires.
Downstairs, Melany could hear Lindy's sharp voice carrying through the halls. She rolled her eyes, knowing exactly what was coming. This woman was just looking for someone to lash out at, Melany thought, her irritation simmering beneath the surface. Even so, she suppressed her emotions, taking deliberate, measured steps toward Lindy's bedroom. By the time she arrived, she had smoothed her expression into one of feigned concern.
"Lindy, I'm here," she said softly, stepping inside.
Her gaze swept over Lindy.
The woman looked far from her usual self. Her face was ashen, her forehead glistening with cold sweat. She looked much more disheveled than her usual arrogant self. How the mighty have fallen, Melany mused with a flicker of satisfaction-Karma at its finest.
But outwardly, she wore a mask of worry.
"How are you feeling now?" she asked, her voice laced with faux sympathy.
It was a question she asked every time.
