Allison shook her head. "This has nothing to do with Kellan. I'm just looking for clues about my mother."

Kellan's voice cut in, cool and indifferent as ever. "Trouble? If anyone's been causing it, Mr. Herbert, it's you. If it weren't for your interference, Allison's search would have been far simpler."

Gordon's expression darkened. "Kellan, do you think you have exclusive rights to Allison?"

"There's no such thing. We choose to be with each other. That's all."
