---- Chapter 372 | tried to tell myself that it was unhealthy. That even if Gideon wanted me, he was still with Fiona, an eighteen year old girl. | couldn't look past that. "Here you go." The bartender handed me my drink, snapping me from my reverie. "Please enjoy it." "Thank you." | took a sip. It was the perfect amount of sweet and strong, and tasted faintly of mangoes. | took another sip, then another, and before | knew it, I'd finished half the drink. The bartender must have made it extra strong, because my head was already fuzzy just from that much.
But I chalked it up to the fact that | didn't drink that much alcohol these days, and frankly, | could use the distraction. So | took another sip. Gideon's POV "Are you listening, Gideon?" "Hm? Oh, yeah. You were talking about your graduation ceremony." ---- "Yeah, it's in a couple of weeks, and | was thinking we could throw a party..." Fiona's voice faded into the background again. | listened on a surface level, just in case she asked me for details again, but my mind was elsewhere. | couldn't stop looking at Avery sitting at the bar, looking like... that.
The red dress was tighter-fitting than what I'd seen her wear recently. It showed off her curves, the muscles in her arms and back, her long legs. She hadn't changed much in the past ten years; if anything, she had only aged like a fine wine. The human lands had seemingly treated her well. She clearly ate well and worked out, and held herself with a confidence | envied. 1 It made my wolf go wild. Right now, | wanted nothing more than to march across that room and tell her exactly how | felt: that | loved her, and | wanted her back, and | would do anything to make that happen.

If she wanted me to get on my knees and kiss her feet, | would. If she wanted me to self flagellate, | would. Whatever it would take to make that woman mine again. And for a moment, | almost did just that. But Fiona was talking and had herself draped over me and then Avery got up and ---- walked over to the bathrooms, disappearing down the hallway, and | didn't see her again Fiona snapped her fingers in my face. "Um, hello? Gideon, you could at least pretend to care what I'm talking about." "Sorry," | said. "It's just..." "It's her, isn't it?" Fiona moved her legs off of mine and sighed.
" You're really jealous, aren't you? Because she's with Sebastian?" | didn't deny it. Fiona made a face. "We have an arrangement, Gideon." "And it doesn't involve a real relationship." | shot Fiona a look. " You know this, Fiona. You agreed to it. Three dates, nothing more. Then that ring comes off and we're right back where we started." Fiona's expression told me anything but, but she didn't say anything else. With a small huff, she turned away, grabbing her drink off the table. She took a long sip and quietly pouted for a few minutes.
| looked over at Avery's table again, but she hadn't returned from the bathroom. Sebastian wasn't there, either. Maybe they left early. "Well," Fiona sighed, "I guess we'll just have to make the best of ---- our temporary arrangement-" Just then, | felt something. | didn't expect it. It was strong and sudden, like Avery had reached out through the bond and wrapped her entire fist around one of my ribs, ripping so hard | was certain it might pull free from the socket. | gasped, lurching forward in my seat, as Avery's voice flooded my mind. "Gideon! HELP!"
