---- Chapter 190 Avery's POV Ibacked up a step as Reynaud prowled into my changing room as though it belonged to him. The bare skin of my upper back brushed against the cold glass of the fitting room mirror. I gasped, but not from the cold. Reynaud had an Alpha's presence and in this confined space it was almost overwhelming. His every movement screamed with power and grace, and his eyes were brilliant gems the color of the sea and sky that pinned me in place like a butterfly upon a mounting board.
"As you can see," I gulped as the curtain swished closed behind Reynaud and we were suddenly alarmingly alone in the confined space, "I have not yet finished my errands." "My deepest apologies, Luna," Reynaud purred in a manner that didn't seem apologetic in the least, "I hadn't realized you were accompanied by Camila Nightwolf, and it would be best if she did not know that we had met." » Why is that?" I asked, warily. Camila and I had never become close, but as Gideon's sister, she was still an esteemed member of the pack. Was there something else about her that I didn't know?
Because what I want to discuss involves her brother," Reynaud tilted his head to the side and I could see his eyes tracing the deep wounds that ran down my arm. They had healed closed, but ---- the skin was marred with deep marks left by the rogue wolves' claws and teeth, and the scars still stood out red and fresh against my skin. "What gave you those scars?" He snapped suddenly, and I felt self-conscious under his scrutiny as he stepped closer, reaching out one hand to hover over my arm and shoulder, "Did Gideon Nightwolf give you these?" Reynaud's eyes narrowed to cerulean points.

Even though he hadn't even actually touched me, I felt the heat radiating from his hands as they hung in the air millimeters from my skin. His gaze whipped from my wounds to my face. Tf your Alpha did this..." He growled even as I flinched away from his almost-touch and hugged my arms tighter around myself. » What? You'll do what?" I said, bitterly. Reynaud made an exasperated sound, "Anyone who hurts you like that should be given the same in return," he said, gesturing at my body, "Was it him?" I shook my head. Gideon hadn't hurt me. Not directly. Not physically.
He had just stood by his fake mate and let it happen. He had just allowed her to give me hard labor so that my injuries took longer to heal. So no, he hadn't caused my wounds, but he hadn't mitigated ---- them either. "Luna Avery," Reynaud's voice dropped to a soft tone, "You must know that I hold you in the greatest esteem. It pains me to know that someone has harmed you. If it is within my power to assist in any way, please know that I would consider it my honor to do so." I dropped my gaze away from his probing stare, feeling my cheeks heat under his regard and his flowery praise.
Still, his offer sounded genuine, and I was surprised at how touched I was by the offer of aid. Ithad been so long since anyone had genuinely appeared concerned for me. When was the last time someone had offered me relief from my burdens that didn't come with apparent strings attached? "Thank you," I nodded simply. »Will you not tell me what troubles you? The last time we met..." Reynaud had the decency to look slightly embarrassed.
The last time we had met I had been drunk, at the Alpha Ball, and I was pretty sure I had accepted his offer to escort me back to my room, with a strong implication that he would be interested in staying the night. Then... something had happened. Thad spent the night in the arms of my lover, but it had been Gideon who had emerged from my shower after a night of mind- blowing sex, and the bastard still would not admit it had been ---- him in plain words. So there was still doubt in my mind. What if it had been Reynaud and not Gideon who had spent the night vigorously worshipping my body?
+ I blushed again, trying to match that powerful alpha in my memories with the beautiful man in front of me. Reynaud saw my bashful expression and his expression lifted in a smirk. "ah, I see you remember something," he said huskily, "and if we hada little more time I would be happy to resume where we left off..." his fingers twitched at his side, as though he was suppressing the urge to reach for me, "But I really did come with a proposal for you."
