Chapter 319 "That's not up to you to decide," I hissed. "Perhaps not, but it is up to me to decide who does and doesn't go to my school." "I'll donate more money to the academy," I said quickly. I stood, reaching for my purse. "I'll pay for the other student's medical bills, too. All of them. And I'll increase my annual donation. Whatever it takes to keep Bjorn enrolled here. Just name your price.' The headmaster turned to me, expression softening slightly. "It's not about money. It's about what's best for the other students.
And I don't think Bjorn is a good fit for Heathmoore at this point." I opened my mouth to argue, but Bjorn's voice cut through the room. "I don't want to be here anymore." I turned. He was looking at me now. His eyes were dark and angry. He stood and walked toward the door. "Can we go?" I stared at him. Then I looked back at the headmaster. "I'll still pay for the other student's medical bills," I said. He nodded. "That's very generous of you." I followed Bjorn out of the office. He didn't wait for me. He was already halfway down the hallway. We got into the car in silence.

I started the engine and pulled out of the parking lot. Bjorn stared out the window the entire drive home. When we got back to the house, he went straight to his room and slammed the door. I stood in the foyer, staring at the closed door. My mother appeared from the kitchen. She was holding a dish towel, drying her hands. She'd aged over the past ten years, and every time I looked at her, it was a bitter reminder of the time that had but her eyes passed. Her skin had new wrinkles and her hair was completely gray, but her were still bright. "What happened this time?" she asked.
"He's expelled," I said, dropping my briefcase on the floor. "He put a kid in the hospital, Mom." My mother's face fell. "Oh, Avery." +25 Bonus "I don't know what to do." I walked into the kitchen and sat down at the table. "I've tried everything. Therapy. Supplements. Discipline. Nothing works." My mother sat across from me. She was quiet for a moment. Then, she reached into her apron pocket and pulled out a folded pamphlet. She set it on the table between us. "I found this at the community center last week. It's about a werewolf commune about two hours from here.
It looks really nice." I picked up the pamphlet. The front had a picture of a group of people standing in front of a cluster of cabins. They were smiling. The text read: "Join the Riverbend Commune. A place for wolves to thrive." My stomach did a flip. A commune. The type of place where werewolves in the human lands went because they couldn't actually handle human society. It was no better than a pack. I had spent ten years trying to get away from that life of hierarchy, backstabbing, and lawlessness, and I wasn't about to go back to it because of one bad phase.
"No." I stood and tore the pamphlet in half. "I didn't leave the packs just to end up back in one." My mother's lips pressed together. "But he's struggling. You can see that, can't you?" "He'll be fine." I walked over to the counter and grabbed the plate of cookies she had baked earlier. "I'm gonna talk to him, and everything will be fine." My mother watched me as I walked out of the kitchen. She didn't say anything, but I could hear her sigh follow me all the way up to Bjorn's room.
