---- Chapter 138 As nighttime fell, I snuck the girls into my room quietly, pressing one finger to my lips. "This is a secret project," I whispered, "We must work silently, so no one else knows." Giggling, the other girls nodded, eyes shining. "Tt'll be like a game, Luna," Melody smiled. Madelyn's sister, Ariadne, was a tiny redhead with huge brown eyes and she nodded at me with a shy smile. »We're happy to help." The room quickly became a quiet scene of industry.

Madelyn cut out pieces of fabric on the floor, while Melody pinned, and Ariadne sewed with tiny, expert stitches that she produced with astonishing speed. I tried to help where I could, but Ariadne took one look at my stitches and laughed, "Better for you to just be our model," she teased, pushing me towards a stool so I could stand up tall while they fit the pieces to my body. ---- The girls worked through the night, even shoving me into my bed and demanding I sleep so I would be well rested the next day.

I held each of their hands and kissed their cheeks in gratitude before climbing beneath the covers and passing out. When I woke up, they were gone, but my suitcase was packed, and the dress that was laid carefully across the chair in my room took my breath away. The fabric was dark purple, almost black, but Melody had overlaid it with tulle studded with metallic flecks that shimmered against the dark silk underneath and made the whole thing look like a night sky filled with stars.

[had little in the way of jewelry- just the simple wedding band that Gideon had given to me on our wedding day, but Madelyn had cut a piece of black velvet into a choker that would circle my throat, and she had beaded the edge with little sparkling stars to match. Just looking at their hard work made me tear up. 'We were due to leave in an hour, and I rushed to bathe and dress. Across the hall I heard Gideon and Deirdra ---- leaving their room. "Oh, don't you love my dress?" I heard Dierdra ask as they walked past my door, but if Gideon made a reply I couldn't hear it.

I waited until they had gone down the stairs to emerge from my room and descend down the stairs into the foyer. Ihad hoped to reach the cars after them, and enjoy the ride separately, but Gideon and Dierdra were still lingering at the bottom of the pack house steps as I emerged into the daylight. I saw Dierdra's mouth drop open in surprise when she saw me, "How did she..." she caught herself with a quick glance at Gideon, and shut her mouth with a snap, glaring daggers at me. I don't think Gideon even heard that she spoke. His eyes were glued on me as I approached.

"Where is your jacket, dear?" Dierdra called out, pointing at my bare arms and shoulders where the neckline of the dress dipped and plunged daringly, " surely you can't go with all that on display," she pointed at my bosom, and at the goosebumps rising ---- on my arms in the chilly air. Thad no suitable outerwear, it was true, but it didn't matter. Gideon's gaze was hot enough to keep me warm a thousand times over. Even though I was still furious at him, I found myself blushing under his stare. He hadn't looked away once since I had appeared.

"Here," he murmured, shrugging out of his own warm fur-lined jacket and gently helping me into it, " take mine." We went to climb into the cars and Gideon courteously helped me into my seat first. "You look very beautiful," he said softly, before closing the door. I saw Dierdra's furious face staring back at me as she walked to their car alone. "This is supposed to be MY debut!" I heard her complaining through the window. Smiling to myself, I snuggled back into Gideon's warm jacket and settled in to enjoy the ride.
