---- Chapter 155 "Such disrespect!" one Luna exclaimed from the sidelines. "No Alpha would put up with such treatment," snorted another man. "The Nightwolf Alpha must punish her now." Dierdra seemed to realize that she had made a horrendous mistake in showing such discourtesy in such a public arena. Instead of apologizing, she instead burst into tears, and collapsed into a sobbing heap on the floor in front of both of us. "T- |... j-just wish you would be k-kind to meee!" she gulped pathetically, reaching out one grasping hand to Gideon.
I gritted my teeth as I felt Gideon's hold on me loosen. How could he continue to be so susceptible to Dierdra's bogus melodrama? "Don't," I tried to grab his hand as he moved towards her, " Gideon, she's playing you!" He gave me one last, helpless look, and then he knelt beside Dierdra and gently helped her to her feet. I couldn't stand to watch this nonsense play out any further. Dierdra's face was full of gratitude and awe, and the crowd watching the scene all exclaimed as she clutched Gideon's arms and buried her face in his chest.

"Awww..." the Lunas swooned as Gideon patted the back of her head as she clung to him, there in the spotlight. ---- And then there was me, once again discarded, at the edge of the dance floor. It wasn't fair! Dierdra was such a nasty person, but she had a pretty face, and she was a good actress. These onlookers had no idea what a terrible person she truly was. Gideon, himself, repeatedly refused to acknowledge her bad behavior, and now he coddled her as though he had done something wrong. But what he and I had shared had felt far from being wrong.
It had felt so right, to the point where it excluded the possibility of ever feeling that good with anyone else ever again. How could he feel what we felt and deny its power? How could he ignore the electric fire that flowed between us every time we touched? And how could he share a night like last night with me and still turn his back and go to HER instead? "Tell... t-tell me that you love me!" Dierdra sniffled, staring daggers at me over Gideon's shoulder. "Dierdra..." I heard Gideon's quiet urging, low and pitched for her ears alone.
But already the audience was invested, and they surged forward at Dierdra's demand, ears perked. "Say it!" one Luna called out, "She's your true mate, isn't she?" "J don't understand how he could dance with that other woman and ignore his mate!" a murmuring went around the crowd.
---- "If he rejects that pretty young thing, I will snap her up," I heard aman say as he nudged his friend in the ribs, "I don't care if she's his true mate or not, she looks like she'd be fun." "Why isn't he saying it?" a younger Luna shouted, "Go on, prove you're her man!" "P-p-please, Gideon," Dierdra clenched her fingers around his lapels, "Why were you dancing with Avery? Do you not want me anymore? After you marked me?" I saw Gideon's shoulders stiffen, from this angle I could only see the side of his face as he spoke. The room hushed to listen to his words. "J only love my true mate.
The one who bears my mark," His voice creaked with tension but he delivered the words steadily, without breaking, "Avery is just my Luna. I do not love her." Dierdra beamed with approval, and threw her arms around Gideon's neck as he stood there stiffly. Some of the Lunas applauded and the Alphas eyes swiveled towards me. I could stand it no longer. Tears streamed down my face as I lowered my head and fled from the ballroom.
