Chapter 67
Maggie finished the homework late that night. Johnny, exhausted from the long day, stretched his arms and said, “Finally done. Nolan really doesn’t go easy on us.”
Maggie let out a small laugh. “At least he gave us clear feedback. It could’ve been worse.”
After sending the assignment to Nolan, Maggie finally had a moment to rest. Her injured foot throbbed faintly, but compared to the pain she’d felt earlier, it was manageable. She took a quick shower and went to bed early.
The next morning, her ankle felt slightly better, though still stiff. She received a short message from Franklin:
“Rest well.”
It was neither warm nor cold—just like him.
Maggie didn’t reply.
Johnny arrived around noon with lunch and helped her practice walking a few steps. “You’ll recover fast,” he said confidently. “Just don’t push yourself.”

“Mm. I know.”
They spent most of the afternoon revising the homework again after Nolan sent them additional comments. By the time they finished, Maggie was exhausted.
Late at night, after Johnny left, Maggie checked her phone and saw that Harry had sent a brief response confirming the transfer. Nothing more. She didn’t expect him to continue the conversation anyway.
The weekend passed quietly. Maggie stayed home, resting her foot while preparing materials for the upcoming collaboration discussion Johnny had mentioned earlier. Though she didn’t fully understand Franklin’s intentions, she knew he was serious when it came to work.
On Sunday evening, she received a text from Isabella:
“Mom, I’ll visit you after school tomorrow!”
Maggie smiled helplessly.
“Focus on your classes. I’m fine.”
Still, she knew Isabella would find a way to check on her if given the chance.
That night, she lay in bed, her mind drifting back to the unexpected interactions of the past few days—her injury, Franklin’s sudden appearance at the exhibition, and Harry Becker’s unexpected assistance.
Everything felt strangely tangled, yet she had no energy to dwell on it.
What mattered most was that by Monday, she would return to work.
As she closed her eyes, she quietly exhaled.
Tomorrow would bring new complications—she could feel it.
But whatever came, she would face it one step at a time.
