---- Chapter 446 Maggie hesitated. Glen only smiled. "No problem-eat later if you get hungry. If you don't want these, I'll make something fresh when you feel like it." ...Okay. Thanks," Maggie said. The three of them fell quiet. Sensing her awkwardness, Jessica and Johnny came over to help. "Sutter brought his guitar," Jessica said. "Come on, let's go listen." Maggie and Jessica walked off. Jimmy and Glen exchanged a glance, said nothing, and headed back toward the campfire they'd just built.
Julia's group hadn't heard what Jimmy and Glen said to ---- Maggie, but watching the scene, Julia paused-as if she understood-then told herself she might be overthinking it. Some of Levi's friends knew Jimmy by sight. They hadn't paid him much attention before-after all, they weren't close. Seeing this, one of them looked away and asked, "Who's that girl? She's stunning. No wonder even Mr. Hall-who never talks to women-seems smitten." Sophia's face soured immediately. "Smitten? Don't talk nonsense. How could Mr.
Hall possibly like her?" Part of it was that she couldn't accept a man of Jimmy's caliber liking Maggie. Part was that, in her mind, Maggie and Johnny were a done deal-how could anything happen with Jimmy? And even if Jimmy did like Maggie, he wouldn't poach in front of Johnny, would he? If he tried, Johnny would have blown up by now. ---- As for Glen-even less likely. Glen liked her sister, after all. What Sophia's side thought, Maggie didn't know. The "Sutter" Jessica mentioned was Johnny's friend-a solid guitarist. They sat down to listen as he sang and played.

Jessica was outgoing, taking requests and even duetting with Sutter. Maggie didn't sing and seldom listened to music. Just then, both Glen and Jimmy stood up and walked toward her. Noticing each other's movement, they paused-then continued, side by side. Everyone saw it. Sutter even stopped playing; the audience collectively settled in to watch the show. Neither Jimmy nor Glen looked embarrassed. Glen spoke ---- first. "I brought a telescope. Want to stargaze?" Jimmy smiled. "Funny-I brought one too." "..." Maggie had to admit she was very interested in stargazing.
But- Johnny cleared his throat and stood. "I'm into stargazing as well. Mind bringing me along?" So the four of them went off to fuss with the telescopes together. Julia and Sophia kept sneaking glances that way. If earlier she could write Jimmy's approach off as her imagination, this time Julia had to admit-Jimmy seemed genuinely interested in Maggie. As for Glen-he must be putting on a show. Yet remembering how cold Glen had been to her recently, a faint sense of dread crept up Julia's spine. In Sophia and Levi's minds, Maggie and Johnny were the ---- default couple.
Without hearing the words exchanged, they assumed Jimmy and Glen had gone over to Johnny, not Maggie-and thought nothing of it. At that moment, Harry finally arrived.
