Chapter 473

That night, Isabella stayed over at the Miller house again. It was only for one more night; by the next evening, Franklin had already sent someone to pick her up. Because the partnership with Wilson Corp was approaching a major breakthrough, Maggie arrived at the company early the next morning. At noon, when she went downstairs with Jarrell, Claremont, and a few others to have lunch, she unexpectedly ran into Julia in the lobby. Claremont and the others immediately greeted her politely, as they always did.

“Mrs. Brown.”

Julia gave a small nod. “Heading out for lunch?”

“Yes,” Claremont said with a smile. Out of courtesy, he paused, expecting Julia to exchange at least a polite word or two with Maggie. After all, Julia was technically a host figure at Wilson Corp now.

But to his surprise, Julia acted as if Maggie didn’t exist. She simply smiled at him and the other staff members. “All right then, enjoy your meal. We’ll eat together another time.”

Claremont blinked, caught off guard. The others from Wilson Corp exchanged uncertain looks. For a moment, none of them could tell whether Julia genuinely didn't recognize Maggie or was pretending not to. But as far as they knew, the two women had definitely met before. Maggie had been involved in projects linked to Wilson Tech and Cole; Julia was now in charge of that branch. How could she not know her?

Still, Maggie didn’t acknowledge Julia either. She didn’t greet her, didn’t look her way, just as if she didn’t know Julia was Franklin’s girlfriend, or the current head of Wilson Tech. Julia, for her part, didn’t so much as glance at her. She treated Maggie as though she were invisible, nodded briefly to the others, and turned away. Maggie hadn’t wanted to see Julia at all, but with her standing so close, it was impossible to ignore her. Even though Julia acted like she wasn’t there, Maggie still caught the look, the faint curve of disdain in her lips, the cold arrogance in her eyes. It was the look of someone who no longer even considered her a threat.

When Julia walked off, Claremont finally frowned. Something didn’t add up. If Julia and Maggie truly didn’t know each other, then, seeing how highly Wilson Corp regarded Maggie, Julia should have at least asked who she was. But she hadn’t; she'd deliberately avoided her. The thought made something click in Claremont’s mind.

He suddenly remembered how Franklin had, several times, come down personally to sit in on Maggie’s meetings because he “admired her professionalism.” Was Julia upset because of that? Had she misunderstood their relationship? Claremont couldn’t help glancing discreetly at Maggie. But Maggie, calm as ever, gave no sign she noticed. She didn’t speak, her expression unreadable. Seeing that, Claremont and the others exchanged quick glances. They all had the same idea now; there was definitely tension between Julia and Maggie, and Franklin was probably the reason. But none of them were foolish enough to comment.

That day, Maggie stayed at Wilson Corp until past seven in the evening. Claremont offered to escort her downstairs. She had visited the company many times before, but encounters with Franklin and Julia were rare. This time, however, when the elevator doors opened, they found Franklin and Julia already inside. Franklin looked mildly surprised to see her. Julia, on the other hand, wore the same frosty expression as before. After a brief glance at Maggie, she turned away. Claremont quickly greeted them. “Mr. Wilson, Mrs. Brown.” Both Franklin and Julia nodded in response. Franklin’s eyes moved to Maggie. She lowered her gaze, didn’t look at him, didn’t say a word. After a moment, he spoke first, his tone calm but direct.

“Will you be at Wilson Corp the next few days as well?”

Maggie felt his gaze linger on her. Without raising her head, she simply replied, “Yes.”
