Chapter 51: They eventually left the clothing shop. In the car, Milton handed Candice a black card. "What is this for?" she asked, bewildered. "It's for this store. You can visit anytime and make a purchase on my account if you need any new clothes," Milton said, glancing at Candice's casual outfit. "It's not bad. Once your arm heals, you should try more outfits." Candice was once again left speechless. So, it was because her arm was hurt that she managed to avoid trying on countless outfits today! Never before had she been so thankful for an injury!

It had helped her escape his relentless shopping spree! It was nighttime when the car started, and the vehicle's lights switched on automatically. At that moment, Candice realized something even more frustrating-she hadn't had lunch and was now hungry. Was the man in front of her hungry as well? Her stomach grumbled loudly. In the relative silence of the car, it became impossible to ignore. The situation was mortifying. Candice sheepishly asked, "Mr. Lopez, have you eaten lunch?" She'd often heard of ladies forgetting to eat while out shopping, but never a man.

Shaking his head, Milton replied, "No. I often skip lunch when I have an evening appointment. If I eat too much at lunch, I skip supper." Candice found this man puzzling. Once again, he left her not knowing how to respond. No wonder he had such a great physique-he had no body fat. It turned out he kept his weight under tight control. Yet, his lack of eating didn't change the fact that others still needed to eat. "Are you hungry?" Milton glanced at her sideways. It seemed the problem hadn't occurred to him until now. Didn't he see that?! Did he really have to ask?

Candice grumbled in her heart. She said, with impatience, "It's okay. I haven't starved to death yet." The Bentley barely slowed down. At some point, the streetlights turned on, shining out into the distance. As they passed by, the window framed a scene of a busy street. Feel the thrill at g aln ov el s . com Unexpectedly, Milton reached into his pocket and handed Candice a chocolate bar. "A snack of chocolate could help restore your stamina. Have this." Candice's hand began to shake as she took it. Did that just happen? The scene was so familiar to her.

She could still vividly recall the long night she had spent locked in the cold storage ten years ago. She hadn't had dinner, so she was hungry and terrified, trembling and sobbing uncontrollably. Thankfully, a boy stayed with her throughout the night. As he heard her stomach rumble, he pulled a chocolate bar from his pocket and repeated Milton's words: "A snack of chocolate could help restore your stamina. Have this." "And what about you? Aren't you hungry?" she asked through her tears. The boy replied, "During lunch, I gorged myself to the point of discomfort.

I'm not hungry." From what she remembered, that chocolate was the sweetest she'd ever tasted. It was such a strikingly similar scene! Candice quietly unwrapped the chocolate bar and popped it into her mouth. As before, this chocolate was equally sweet. No matter how hard she tried, she couldn't escape the past. Candice became lost in her thoughts, and she didn't regain her bearings until the car stopped. "We've arrived." In a gentlemanly gesture, once Milton unbuckled his seatbelt, he bent down and helped her unbuckle hers. She could feel his breath, so close to her.

At that moment, he raised his head and locked eyes with her. Her breath caught at the sparkle in his gaze. It felt as if time had frozen instantly, and everything around them had stopped. Candice instinctively gripped the back of the seat and held her breath. What was happening? Did he intend to kiss her? . . .
