Chapter 31: "Oh, I see." Mrs. Wilson's eyes lit up with admiration. "Mr. Harman, you're one lucky man. Your wife is not only stunning but intelligent, and your sister is just adorable!" As they sipped their drinks, their conversation flowed with joyful chatter. The topics were complex and elusive, fitting for such accomplished and educated individuals. Madilyn tried her best to keep up, but it was all too much for her. She smiled awkwardly, feeling out of place. She had initially planned to embarrass Candice, but now she regretted it. She wished she could contribute to the conversation.
Unfortunately, she couldn't find the words. Madilyn stood humiliated and at a loss while the others talked circles around her. Eventually, someone acknowledged her presence. "Mr. Harman, what are your sister's interests?" Dr. Wilson asked, breaking the silence. "I have a passion for art and dancing," Madilyn responded eagerly. Candice raised an eyebrow, intrigued by Madilyn's sudden enthusiasm. Despite her initial skepticism, she held back her disdain, wondering if Madilyn truly had an eye for high-end art. Madilyn had a way with words, effortlessly boasting about her skills and interests.
Candice and Madilyn had been classmates in high school, then both students at Ploville University. Along with Greyson, they had been studying together for the past few years. Despite starting four years later than Greyson, Candice graduated only two years later than him due to his double degree in Medicine and Biotechnology. Madilyn, on the other hand, was just a small fish in the large pond of the university's dance department. "How intriguing! A future artist, perhaps? Have you heard of Clarke Smith? Her paintings are absolutely mesmerizing.

Look, there is one of her paintings displayed in the banquet hall today," Mrs. Wilson said, pointing at the wall beside them. Madilyn's eyes widened as she took in the abstract painting on the wall. Spotting a small note beneath the painting, Madilyn leaned in to read it. It said, "Bolt." Exclusive updates available gⱯlnσνℓs․com Grinning from ear to ear, she quickly told Mrs. Wilson, "What a coincidence! Bolt is my favorite style." Mrs. Wilson was rendered speechless by Madilyn's statement. After a moment of silence, she offered a polite smile.
Madilyn then struggled to think of something else to say but couldn't. After a few more minutes of small talk, Dr. Wilson and his wife bid their farewells and left the party. Greyson let out a sigh of relief as he watched the couple walk out the door. Finally, he got what he came for tonight. Candice released her grip on Greyson, her hand numb from holding onto him for too long. Madilyn wasted no time pushing Candice aside and sidling up to Greyson. "Rey, how do I look tonight? Did I perform well earlier?" she purred. Before Greyson could respond, Candice laughed.
"What's so funny?" Madilyn shot a fierce glare at Candice. "You're just pretending to be his wife. Don't get too comfortable." Ignoring Madilyn's jabs, Candice pointed toward the abstract painting on the wall. "Bolt style? Madilyn, do you know that Bolt is the birthplace of the great painter Clarke Smith? She was a post-impressionist icon. Mrs. Wilson didn't point that out for your sake." "What?" Madilyn was stupefied. Too embarrassed to speak, she looked down at her shoes and fidgeted with her hands. Consumed with guilt, she felt compelled to close the gap between herself and Greyson.
Greyson wore a solemn expression and subconsciously distanced himself from Madilyn, pushing her away. Trying not to look hurt, Madilyn retorted, "So what? Using her birthplace as inspiration is an acceptable stylistic choice." Candice couldn't help but laugh again at Madilyn's response. Her tone dripping with disdain, Candice said, "You're right. It's just pure ignorance. Try not to expose your lack of knowledge in public. You seem to have a lot of free time on your hands to-" "...wander aimlessly. Perhaps you should focus more on your studies.
Only those with knowledge can truly understand the depths of their ignorance." "How dare you say something like that! Candice, you've gone too far," Madilyn interjected, her voice filled with indignation. Her temper flared, causing her to stomp her foot and adopt a fierce expression. She turned to Greyson, silently begging for his support. However, Greyson remained composed and suggested, "Let's calm down and talk nicely." It was clear Greyson's words were directed toward Candice. They were attending the party together, so they needed to maintain a certain level of decorum and mutual respect.
At that moment, Candice's heart sank. Did Greyson feel a twinge of pity for Madilyn after she had ridiculed her? Now that he got what he wanted at the party, did he think he could just abandon her and care only about his beloved girl? Candice's eyes darted over to Greyson. "Talk nicely? Only when we become equals," Candice retorted, her tone tinged with disdain. . . .
