Chapter 16: What a gorgeous man. She had never seen such a fine specimen, not even in movies. His features were nearly perfect, with a straight nose and sexy, thin lips. He exuded a noble aura that whispered of loftiness. Simply standing in his presence made others feel like they were worlds apart. Candice took a few more glances at the man in front of her. She had applied a thick layer of foundation that day to cover the red, swollen marks on her cheek. When she bumped into him just now, some of her makeup rubbed off on his suit jacket.

"Oh my, I'm so sorry." Her instinct was to brush the foundation off his suit. As she did, she realized that the man didn't just look good-he felt strong as well. He was hiding serious muscles beneath those expensive-looking clothes. She hadn't realized she'd been touching him without permission. Milton narrowed his eyes at the woman in front of him, who had astonishingly smooth skin, almond-shaped eyes, long curly eyelashes, and cherry-red lips. He found it odd that she was wearing so much makeup. He took a step back and wrinkled his nose. "I apologize for messing up your suit jacket.

Let me have it dry cleaned for-" Before Candice could finish, Milton interrupted her with a contemptuous expression. "I'm going to stop you right there. You bumped into me, smeared my jacket with your makeup, and now you're offering to pay for dry cleaning. So what? So you can get my phone number?" His eyes were full of undisguised mockery. "Nice try, but that trick has been played on me numerous times. You might want to try a different approach." Candice's jaw dropped. Before she could reply, Milton had already taken off his jacket and tossed it into the nearest trash bin.

Fresh updates available at ɢ@lnσνeℓs․com She had never met anyone so arrogant. What was he trying to prove by throwing away an expensive handmade tailored suit jacket? Candice couldn't help but scoff. What was wrong with this man? Meanwhile, as Raul went upstairs, he suddenly remembered something important he needed to tell Milton, so he hurried back downstairs. He saw a woman standing at the entrance talking to Milton. He had seen photos of Candy and was certain this was her. No information about Candy could be found on any public website.

Because they were meeting today, the Hope Law Firm had sent him her photos in advance so he would recognize her when she arrived. She was here, which was great. He waved at her and hurried over to greet her. As he reached Milton's side, he heard his friend's classic, condescending line: "I'm sorry, lady, but you're not my type." Raul whipped his head toward Milton, staring at him with wide, disbelieving eyes. What was going on? He tried desperately to get Milton's attention and stop him from saying more things that would ruin everything, but Milton was too busy being himself.

Candice looked at Raul and recognized him. She had seen photos of him, but he looked even more handsome in person. Bettina had told her it was Raul who contacted them and asked them to take the case. So the man she bumped into... she could guess who he was. He was probably the well-known CEO of the Royal Garden Corporation, Milton. "Mr. Raul Hinks? Director of the Royal Garden Corporation's overseas development department? I think something is wrong with your boss," Raul nervously cleared his throat. He had no idea what to say that wouldn't make the already bad situation worse.

Milton looked at Raul in confusion. "What?" Raul pursed his lips and dipped his chin, hoping Milton would get the message that he had just insulted the lawyer they hoped to hire. He had reminded Milton to be nice to Candy, and yet here he was, on the verge of driving her away. Unfortunately, Milton didn't understand the look on Raul's face. He said coldly, "Call security and have them escort this woman out, Raul." Raul almost slapped his forehead in frustration. With an embarrassed smile, Candice lowered her head, opened her wallet, and took out a few hundred dollars.

Bewildered and a little curious, Milton watched her. She put the money directly into his shirt pocket. "I'm sorry again for dirtying your jacket. I should pay the cleaning fee. If this isn't enough, I can send you more. But it was your decision to throw away your perfectly good jacket. I had nothing to do with that." Then she turned to Raul. "No need to call security on me, Mr. Hinks. I can leave by myself. Good day." Raul wanted to jump on Milton and beat the hell out of him. Milton hadn't even formally met Candy, and he'd already sent her out the door. He immediately apologized.

"Candy, wait. Please let me explain." Hearing Raul, Milton was stunned. Was this woman the lawyer they were meeting today? . . .
