Chapter 566: Carol stiffened. The realization hit her-Linsey was the founder's wife. A flicker of panic passed through her eyes.

But she quickly smothered her panic, forcing herself to respond with certainty. "He must find her insufferable. He probably wishes she'd stop bothering him and just leave CR Corporation."

Jeffery's brows knitted together. "If he truly couldn't stand her, don't you think he-as the company's founder-would have the power to fire a mere designer?"

Carol faltered, caught off guard. After a beat, she awkwardly replied, "I've heard Linsey's design skills are top-notch. Maybe he's keeping her around because of that." Even as she spoke, she knew the excuse sounded weak. If Mr. Riley didn't actually despise Linsey, then why had he kept her identity hidden?

Jeffery, however, remained unconvinced. His expression stayed unreadable as he met her gaze. "CR Corporation didn't just pay the two-billion penalty for breaching the contract. They also transferred an extra five million with a note mocking my attempt to pressure Linsey tonight."

His voice grew heavier. "Mr. Riley cut all ties with us-because of Linsey."

Disbelief painted Carol's face as she clutched Jeffery's hand tightly. "This can't be real! There's no way Mr. Riley would scrap our deal because of Linsey. She doesn't wield that kind of influence!"

Jeffery's brow creased. "Are you suggesting CR Corporation backed out due to our own internal issues?" His tone turned icy as he slowly withdrew his hand. "Even though I haven't reached Dad's level of competence, I haven't let the company falter to this degree under my watch. Do you really have so little faith in me, Carol?"

Desperation flickered across Carol's features. "No, Jeffery, you've misunderstood me."

"Damn you, Linsey! Why does it always have to be her?" Carol hissed, her eyes flashing with venom.

Alexa, who had been standing watch outside, hurried in at the sound of Carol's shout. "Miss Lawson, is everything all right?"

Rage contorted Carol's features. She snatched a glass from the table and hurled it at Alexa without hesitation.
