Chapter 655

Sydney heard his footsteps before he reached the bed. She

stopped pretending to sleep, opened her eyes, and looked at

him. "How do you always see through everything?"

Julian did not answer at once. One hand cradled the back of her

head while the other adjusted the pillow, raising it slightly.

He helped her lean against the headboard. Only then did he give

her cheek a light pinch. "Nothing in your business escapes my

sharp eyes."

Sydney almost laughed. In the past, she would never have

imagined hearing words like that from him. Every line he spoke

used to sound stiff. Now sweet talk seemed to come to him

with ease.

She lifted her hand and held his warm, dry palm. Her lips

pressed together. "Penelope contacted me on the way home."

“What does she want?" Julian frowned slightly. Then realization

crossed his face. "Megan probably contacted her.”

Sydney had reached the same conclusion.

"She said she knows about my background," Sydney replied

honestly. "She asked to meet tomorrow night."

----

Ina villa on the outskirts of the city, Megan answered

Penelope's call and erupted in anger. "After all these days, this is

the only plan you came up with?"

Tristan had given her ten days, and tomorrow marked the final

deadline. How could she not feel anxious?

If Tristan lost patience and turned her over to the police, she

would never escape again. The evidence alone could destroy

her.

And if Diana added a few words to avenge Sydney, Megan might

never see daylight again.

Over the past few days, Penelope had pieced together the entire

story, so she let out a cold laugh. "Get something straight. You're

the one begging me for help now. Do you still think you're the

Hutton family's third daughter?"

In truth, she wanted Sydney dead. She wanted it more than ever

after losing her own child. Why? Because she had lost

everything, yet Sydney lived a perfect life, had a successful

career, a powerful family, and a partner anyone would envy.

The night Eric forced her into that miscarriage, what had Sydney

been doing? Probably lying peacefully in Julian's arms, waiting

for her baby to be born.

----

And her child? Did that child deserve to die? If not for that bitch,

Penelope would never have fallen this far.

First, Sydney took Caleb from her. Now she had even stolen the

identity Penelope had fought so hard to claim. Because of her,

Penelope had ended up trapped beside Eric, that twisted

monster.

Megan had not expected such defiance. She laughed. "Are you

really willing to let that ugly freak use you for the rest of your life?

“Penelope, as long as Sydney lives, you'll live in her shadow

forever. Only when she dies will your life have a chance to turn

around."

Penelope's grip tightened around the phone. Her teeth clenched.

"| know that perfectly well. | don't need you to remind me. If you

have time to worry about me, worry about yourself."

She ended the call.

Megan stared at the silent phone for a moment, then hurled it

across the room.

A moment later, the screen lit up again. A message appeared.

Penelope: [Tomorrow at eight. Based on what | know about

Sydney, she'll be there]

----

The villa door suddenly opened. Megan turned and saw Tristan

walk in. His face showed no expression.

“Hutton, it has been nine days." His voice sounded like ice

striking glass. He spoke as if addressing a corpse.

At the sight of him, Megan remembered exactly how she had

escaped before. A chill crept up her spine. Fear rose in her chest

as she replied, "Yes, | know.”

She then handed him the phone. "Penelope has arranged to

meet her tomorrow night.”
