Chapter 652
‘Talk about choosing loyalty to a woman over a brother.’ Still,
Raymond was not surprised that Julian had sold him out so
completely.
He knew how close Sydney and Tiffany were. He dropped his
usual careless attitude and chose his words with care. "Don't
worry. This time my sister and the family won't interfere.”
He assumed Sydney feared that the Hutton family might step in
again and embarrass Tiffany.
Sydney frowned. "That's not what I meant. What I'm saying is
this. Whether Tiff chooses to get back together with you or not,
and no matter how your relationship turns out later, your
resignation has nothing to do with her. Raymond, that was your
decision. It has nothing to do with Tiff."
Her voice was quiet but clear. The words fell with such plain
certainty that Raymond froze.
She was not the first person to tell him this. Yet hearing it from
her made him oddly happy. A smile tugged at his lips. “Alright.
Thanks for worrying about my love life."
Sydney almost reached out to check his temperature. Which
part of what she said sounded like she was worrying about him?
----
She was clearly worried that he would blame Tiffany if he
regretted the decision one day.
Sydney sighed in resignation. "Sure. Whatever you say."
As long as he remembered what she had just said.
The gap between his family background and Tiffany's was too
wide. His temper was far from gentle. If he ever turned on her
one day, Tiffany would be the one who suffered.
Raymond watched her abandon the argument and could not

help laughing. He patted her lightly on the head. "Alright, I'l take
you back."
A thousand thoughts moved through his mind. How had he
failed to realize sooner that this girl was his real sister? If he had
known earlier, he would not have missed a single moment of her
life. He would have watched his sister grow up with pride.
Sydney thought he only meant to escort her outside. She did not
expect that after helping her into the car, he would walk around
the front, open the other door, and climb into the passenger seat.
She stared at him, baffled.
Raymond spoke with perfect composure. "I happen to have
something to discuss with Jules. I'll hitch a ride.”
----
‘What a strange man. He's been acting strange for a while now,”
she thought.
In the past, he barely dared to say a word to her in public. In
private, he avoided her even more. So what exactly had
changed?
Sydney fastened her seatbelt. At last, she could not resist
asking, "Are you... okay?"
Raymond seemed to be on a completely different wavelength.
He hesitated, then asked, "Sydney, if you had a brother, would
you want him around while you were growing up?"
“Of course." The answer slipped out immediately. Then Sydney
smiled with quiet acceptance. "But Julian always did that."
Even in the years when Julian pushed her away on purpose, and
during the three years she was married to Caleb, Julian had
never truly stayed out of things. Otherwise, she might not have
survived Eloise's schemes with nothing but her own cleverness,
Raymond's mouth twitched. He almost failed to respond. "That's
true.”
‘True my ass,’ he thought.
If Julian had not been such a jealous bastard, he would have
been a good brother long ago.
----
At Seraph Villa, the moment James stepped into the room, he
sensed that something was wrong. When he saw Florence
leaning against the bed with red eyes, his heart lurched.
He hurried over. "Mom, what happened? Sydney just left and
everything seemed fine. Why are you..."
"I told her to go back first." Florence took a deep breath and
gestured for another tissue.
After wiping the tears from her face, she continued, "Raymond
sent Sydney back to Delta Mansion, right?"
“Most likely." James knew his younger brother well.
Once Florence steadied herself, he helped her into the
wheelchair. "What exactly is going on?"
