Chapter 649
‘Peter and the others?’
Sydney did not give the message much thought at first. Only
after she changed and went downstairs did she understand what
“the others" meant.
In addition to Peter and Nathan, five more bodyguards waited
outside. The scene resembled a coordinated security detail.
On the way to Seraph Villa, she texted Julian.
Sydney: [Are you guarding against Tristan?]
She paused before sending another message. Something felt
wrong, It had only been a few days. Would Tristan really make
another move so soon?
A reply appeared almost instantly.
Julian: [It's Megan. Someone arranged bail for her. She escaped]
Sydney's fingers tightened around her phone. She assumed a
dubious friend of Megan's had stepped in
Sydney: [Then I'll finish Madam Hutton's treatment and come
back early.]
She did not want to cause more trouble. Had she known Megan

had escaped, she might not have left the house at all
Julian responded at once.
Julian: [Relax. With Peter and the others there, she won't dare
act openly]
Sydney replied with a simple "Okay," reassured by his
confidence.
She had called ahead, so James was already waiting at the gate
when she arrived.
"You're here." The car door had barely opened before the usually
reserved and composed man stepped forward, reaching out
ahead of Peter to steady her with the easy familiarity of an older
brother. “Slow down. You're cleared to be out already? How's

your recovery?"
In recent days, the Huttons had wanted to visit her at Delta
Mansion but held back. They did not want to disturb her rest.
With Megan still at large, they also felt too ashamed to face her.
It seemed Julian had spared her those details.
“Im much better." She touched James' arm lightly for balance,
then straightened. "Thank you, James."
"Sydney!" Florence called from the villa entrance, her voice
bright with relief.
----
Sydney turned toward her, her expression softening. "I'm feeling
better now, so | came to do acupuncture for you. It should help
speed up your recovery. I'm sorry my situation delayed your
treatment..."
“Silly girl." Florence feigned annoyance and gave her a light
scolding. "Was that something you could control? I'm already
glad you came. Next time, tell me. I'll go to Delta Mansion
instead."
Despite Julian's precautions, Megan's escape left Florence
uneasy.
Sydney smiled. “Okay. | understand.”
She reached for the wheelchair from the housekeeper, but
Florence refused to let her take it.
They entered the sitting room together. Florence even tried to
decline the acupuncture. "There's no need. It may look simple,
but it still—"
"it truly doesn't take any effort,” Sydney cut in with a soft laugh. "
If | weren't avoiding long periods of sitting, | could already return
to the clinic.”
After Alan adjusted her prescription, her recovery had
progressed faster than expected. She felt genuinely well.
----
“Alright, alright. We'll listen to you." Florence glanced toward the
courtyard. "Diana is out of town for a meeting today. But that
rascal Raymond is already on his way back. Stay for lunch with
us."
Sydney offered an apologetic smile. "I won't stay for lunch. I'll
head back after the treatment."
Atrace of disappointment crossed Florence's face. "Why not at
least eat?"
“| only learned on the way here that Megan escaped," Sydney
said frankly. "If I'm gone too long, Julian will worry."
In truth, she would worry as well.
Florence and James exchanged a look, their expressions
shifting at once.
Sydney noticed. "What is it?"
“They're feeling guilty, that's all.” A familiar, lazy voice drifted in
from the doorway.
Raymond walked in and stopped before her. He did not soften
the truth. "The one who arranged Megan's bail was Theodore."
