Chapter 625
Hearing those words from Eric did not surprise Penelope at all.
Her fingers clenched. "But the doctor said my pregnancy is
unstable. Being intimate could easily cause a miscarriage."
She had thought that no matter how debauched he was, there
remained a line he would not cross.
Unfortunately, she was wrong.
Eric laughed as though he had heard a joke. He reached over
and switched on the light, his tone light and careless. “It's not
some precious treasure. If it's lost, it's lost."
Penelope felt as though she had fallen into an icy cellar.
Whether from cold or fear, her body shook uncontrollably. She
tried to appeal to whatever conscience he might have left. "Eric,
I'm carrying your child.”
He laughed even harder, the disgust in his eyes fully exposed."
Who the hell knows whose bastard you're carrying?”
Her eyes widened in disbelief. She could accept the Hamptons

would do the same.
Yet at that moment, she had no leverage against him. She
swallowed her pride and spoke softly. "If you doubt it, we can

"Enough. I'm not short one kid." As he spoke, he pressed a hand
against her waist.
There was no gentleness and no hesitation. What followed was
nothing more than the release of desire and anger.
“It hurts!" Penelope arched reflexively, unable to pinpoint the
source of the pain. It seemed to come from everywhere at once.
She pushed at him but could not budge him. Tears streamed
down her face without her noticing.
In her daze, memories from the orphanage surfaced. She
remembered Sydney from back then, confused and timid,
bullied by her, too frightened to cry even when wronged.
Bitterness and resentment surged again. Penelope hated the

unfairness of the world. She hated how the universe favored
Sydney again and again.
And her? Why did her path lead only to being trampled by a man
like Eric?
‘One day, one day | will make that woman...’
Her jealousy twisted her expression when Eric suddenly pulled
back. He glanced downward and cursed, his face tight with
irritation and revulsion, "Damn it."
----
He had not expected it to happen so easily.
“What—" Before Penelope could finish, a sharp pain tore through
her lower abdomen. Warmth spread uncontrollably down her
thighs.
It was over.
With the last of her strength, she grabbed at him. "Call an
ambulance!"
Call what ambulance?" Eric sounded fed up. "Don't make a
scene. I'll take you to the hospital."
Tonight had already angered Cyrus. If anyone learned that he
had caused her miscarriage, the disgrace would only deepen.
That night, Sydney slept deeply for the first time in a long while.
When she woke, the sun already stood high.
Light filtered through the curtains. Curled in Julian's arms, she
squinted contentedly. "What time is it?"
“Almost noon." He set his phone aside and pulled her closer. "
Did you sleep well?"
After more than ten hours, of course she had. In recent years,
----
she rarely slept so peacefully.
"I did." She nodded and rolled out of bed, then reached back to
pull him up. “Get up. It's almost time to eat."
She did not want Agatha to wait. Though the old lady indulged
her, Sydney did not wish to take advantage of it.
Julian rose easily and reminded her, "Move slowly. Take good
care of yourself for a while.”
She smiled brightly. "Yes, sir.”
After a full night's rest, with nothing weighing on her mind, she
felt much better.
Hand in hand, they went downstairs for brunch.
Agatha studied Julian with a curious look. "Something good
happened?”
He suppressed the upward pull at the corner of his mouth. "That
obvious?"
She shot him a look. "You might as well carve it on your
forehead."
He lifted a brow and dropped the news. "You're going to be a
great-grandmother.”
----
When Sydney had told him the night before, he had been
stunned. His heart had felt as though it were filled to the brim,
an emotion beyond words.
He knew he would remember that moment for the rest of his life
Unexpectedly, Agatha only nodded. "Yeah, | know.”
She cheerfully placed a hot muffin onto Sydney's plate.
