Chapter 647

Julian searched Sydney's eyes and found he could not refuse

her. After a brief pause, he reached out and pinched her cheek

lightly.

In the end, he relented. "Fine. We'll go to the study first."

"Okay!"

Sydney had expected as much. Lately, he had granted nearly

every request. He worried that even the slightest distress might

affect the baby.

She slipped her arms through his and walked with him toward

the elevator.

“Actually, after resting these past few days, the baby's condition

is stable," she said casually. "If | ask for something you don't

like, you can say no. I'm not that unreasonable."

He glanced at her. "You think I'm indulging you because of the

baby?"

"Huh?" She blinked. "Then why?"

He flicked her lightly on the forehead and put ona faintly

displeased look. "Figure it out yourself."

----

“Oh.” She responded, then realization dawned. It was because of

her.

What he truly feared was not only losing the baby, but also the

harm a miscarriage could cause her.

Warmth spread through her chest. "Then you"

“I'm looking forward to our baby too,” he said gently, cutting her

off as if he had read her mind. "But nothing matters more than

your health.”

She smiled without reserve. "How did you know that's what |

was going to ask?"

He lifted a brow with easy confidence. "Because no one knows

you better than | do."

Perhaps he was right. During the years when her personality had

taken shape, he had been the person closest to her.

Of course he knew her. In the past, misunderstandings had

clouded everything. Neither of them had felt secure. They had

tested each other with care, step by cautious step.

Julian opened the study door and gestured for her to enter first.

She had been inside many times. Yet today, an inexplicable

tension tightened her chest.

----

She surveyed the familiar room but saw no sign of a hidden

entrance.

"Pull the shell wind chime," he said softly.

She hesitated, then walked to the shell wind chime she had

made herself and gave it a gentle tug.

A quiet click sounded, like a concealed mechanism in an old

drama. The bookshelf behind the desk slid aside, revealing a

hidden room. Light from the study spilled in, though it did not

fully illuminate the space.

She glanced back at him before stepping inside.

As she reached for a switch, he pressed something out of sight.

The hidden room lit up at once.

An entire wall lay before her, covered in photographs. Every

single one featured her. Only a few scattered images showed

the two of them together. Many captured nothing but her back.

Her gaze settled on one photograph: her younger self in a pale

yellow dress, seen from behind.

A trace of confusion crossed her face.

Behind her, Julian's steady voice broke the silence. "That was

the day you registered for middle school.”

----

He had liked her long before she had liked him.

She stilled. Emotion swelled in her chest and rose to her eyes.

She forced them wide, determined to hold back the tears. "I

want to play in the snow.”

He heard the tremor in her voice but chose not to acknowledge

it. "You're not going to look at the rest?"

"Next time." She sniffed softly and looked up at him. "Can |

come in here anytime?"

He stroked the back of her head. "This is your home."

Home was the one place where she could come and go as she

pleased.
