Chapter 640
The corner of Raymond's eye lifted almost imperceptibly. He
withdrew his gaze as if nothing had happened and accepted the
document.
Just as he lowered his pen to sign, a clear, familiar male voice
sounded nearby. "Tiff, sorry to drag you along again to
accompany my mom for her follow-up."
Raymond did not need to look up to know it was Glen.
For some reason, his pen slipped, and a long streak of ink cut
across the signature line.
The intern, unaware of the shift in the air, sensed only that
Raymond's presence had turned colder, the easy composure he
usually carried gone.
"Dr. Hutton, is there something wrong with the document?"
"Sorry. No." His expression remained unchanged. He set the pen
down again, signed swiftly, handed the file back, and slipped his
hands into his pockets as he walked toward his office.
The intern turned toward HR with the file. After only a few steps,
a gust of air brushed past her. She turned instinctively.
The doctor who had seemed so unhurried moments earlier was
----
now striding briskly in another direction,
Tiffany supported Glen's mother as they headed toward the
elevators.
"| could have come by myself,” Lauren scolded lightly, glancing
at her son. "And you still troubled Tiff to take time off to
accompany me."

She had not fully regained her strength after the previous
surgery. This was her final follow-up. After today, she would not
need to return to the hospital.
Glen glanced at Tiffany, ready to respond, but noticed her
distraction. She seemed so lost in thought that she nearly
bumped into someone passing by.
He reacted at once, catching her wrist and pulling her closer. "
What are you spacing out for?"
She started and came back to herself. "Nothing. | just lost track
of my thoughts for a second.”
"My mom's blaming me," he said with a helpless smile. "She
says | shouldn't keep bothering you."
“What's there to bother?" Tiffany shrugged and smiled easily at
Lauren. "| was heading this way anyway. The appointments were
booked online in advance. It didn't take much time.”
----
"What do you mean, ‘on the way?" Lauren patted her hand
warmly. “It's because you care.”
She glanced at her son before continuing, "Are you going back
to the firm later? If you're free, come home with us. It's been a
while since you've had my cooking.”
Tiffany and Glen had grown up together. She had never been
favored in her own home and had eaten many childhood meals
at Lauren's table. That kindness had stayed with her.
At the thought, she nodded. "Sure. I've missed your cooking.”
After leaving the outpatient building, the three of them got into
Tiffany's car. Glen left his own vehicle with his assistant.
Their homes stood on opposite sides of a narrow alley. When
they arrived, Tiffany parked with practiced ease and followed
them upstairs, as she had countless times before.
Lauren cooked quickly and well. After dinner, Tiffany rose and
began clearing the table.
“Alright, alright," Lauren stopped her. "Just leave them in the
sink. Let Glen wash them later."
"Okay."
----
Tiffany disliked excessive politeness, so she agreed without
hesitation. "It's getting late. I'll head back."
She had just taken on a new case. If she delayed any longer, she
would likely be working past midnight again.
Lauren shot her son a meaningful look, equal parts exasperation
and encouragement, before speaking with gentle hesitation. "Tiff
... you and Glen have known each other your whole lives. What
do you think of him?"
