Chapter 7 Chapter 7 My mind went completely blank. "What?" Declan's voice was ice cold. "They checked the chandelier. Someone messed with the chains holding it up. If it wasn't you, then who else wants Cassia gone that badly?" Fear shot through me. "I'm telling you again-I didn't do it! Not this time, not ever! Declan, look at me and tell me if you think I'm lying!" My voice cracked. "You're still denying it!" Declan's eyes turned hard. "You always want me to believe you, but look what keeps happening. Cassia gets hurt, Ayla's in danger. I told you-I only take care of her because of the baby.
Why do you keep causing problems? If something happens to that kid, we're screwed!" My chest felt tight as anger and hurt built up. I wanted to fight back, to yell that I never hurt anyone. I wanted to ask if he forgot his promise to always trust me. But I just looked at him, tired. "Fine. Since you think I'm guilty, let's end this. Break whatever's left between us. I'll get out of your way so you can be happy with your family." Declan froze. "What did you say?!" A growl came from his throat. I stared at him through my tears. "You heard me. I'm done.
Go be with Cassia!" Declan punched the wall, leaving a dent. He grabbed my shoulders, furious. "Nora! Are you crazy?! You're the only one I've ever loved! Now you want me with her?!" I stared back, not backing down. After a long moment, Declan took a deep breath. He pulled me against him, holding me so tight I could barely breathe. "This stops now," he whispered. "Cassia already... forgave you, and I won't push it either." "But listen." His arms got tighter. "Don't ever talk about leaving me again! Everything I do is for us!" I didn't tell him I'd already decided to go.

"She forgave me just like that? No catch?" I asked quietly. Declan went stiff. After a pause he let me go. "She... wants a Luna Ceremony. Says Ayla needs to see her parents united under the full moon's witness, to make her a true heir with both parents' bloodlines recognized." He looked at me. "But it's fake. Just for show, to satisfy the pack laws and give Ayla legitimate status. Don't think too much about it." My lips shook but I couldn't speak. My heart felt like it was being squeezed. I thought, 'Declan, you have a baby with her, and now you're doing the 11:31 You Want Me Back?
What am I supposed to be?' 1.506 Chapter 7 Declan kept talking, explaining why the ceremony had to happen and promising we'd leave together after. I watched his mouth move and suddenly felt completely empty. I closed my eyes and let his words wash over my dead heart. I didn't say anything. Declan stayed with me for three days, taking care of everything. When giving me medicine, he'd blow on it first to cool it down. At night, if I moved even a little, he'd wake up and hold my hand until he knew I was okay. When the doctor gave me shots, he'd hold me and cover my eyes, whispering, "Don't look.
Almost done." But once we got home, he started planning the ceremony right away. He took my phone and put guards at my door so I couldn't cause trouble. Only one maid was left to watch me in the big house. I didn't fight it-just packed my stuff quietly. On ceremony day, they gave me back my phone. It was full of pictures Cassia had sent. Declan in ceremonial wolf furs, placing a silver band on Cassia's finger under the blood moon; them sharing the ritual bite on each other's necks while the pack howled; their little family drinking from the sacred chalice together.
Every picture hurt worse than the last. Just as I was about to turn off the phone, my door opened. Gideon walked in. "Everything's ready." He handed me a flight ticket. "I promise once you leave, he'll never find you." I took the ticket and grabbed my bag. Walking out into the sunlight, I didn't look back. Just headed straight for the car waiting outside.
