Chapter 57 Peeing is almost as satisfying as the multiple orgasms Kai just gave me. I'd never tell him that, of course. I flush and try to wash my hands in the cabin's dark little bathroom. There's no electricity in the cabin, so I can't turn on the light to see if there's soap anywhere. So it's more of a rinse, but hey, something's better than nothing. I exit the bathroom, every step a taunt. The ache between my legs, the way my skin feels hypersensitive to the cabin's stale air-all just remind me of what just happened.
I'm still not sure if it was a monumental fuck-up, or the best thing that's ever happened to me. "You want the right or the left?" Kai lies sprawled on the bed, hands tucked behind his head. I scoff. "I'm not sleeping here." He sits up, frowning. "You wanna walk back to campus now? In the rain?" I hobble to the kitchen, feeling Kai's eyes on me. When I face him again, he's eyeing me like he's wondering if there's a manual for post-sex etiquette that he never got to read. I lean back against the kitchen counter, cross my arms, and tilt my head at him.
"I'm-" I cut off when I realize I'd been about to tell him about Milo's job. But I promised myself that I wouldn't let anyone know. "I've got places to be." He groans theatrically as he drags himself off the bed. "Come on, Heavenly. Just a few hours to recharge." It says a lot that I let him close enough to snatch my wrists and tug me against him. He gazes down, one side of his mouth quirked like he already knows I'm going to bend to his will. Fuck it if his green eyes aren't hypnotizing me. I force myself to break his stare, peering down at my bare, dirty feet instead.
"Nope," I say, with more determination than I feel. "I've already risked a UTI, and I'm probably getting gangrene if I don't get this shit looked at." I point at my injured foot. When I look up, Kai's staring at my feet with a glazed look on his face. I snap my fingers under his nose. "Earth to Kai." He wrenches my arm away, irritation flashing onto his face, but it's gone in an instant. "Ow," I say dryly. "Please," he scoffs. "I just railed you so hard the sofa nearly broke. You want to tell me that hurt?" Before I can reply, he grabs my waist and hoists me up onto the countertop.

And I'm so shocked, I just...let him. "Don't move." "You're so fucking romantic," I mutter as he turns away. I lift my leg to look at the cut on the sole of my foot, wincing. Doesn't look inflamed, but it's not scabbing over yet, either. Kai thumps around the cabin, opening this, slamming that. "That's it," I call out. "Break some more stuff." Kai drags a pair of rubber boots out of the closet, looking smarmy as fuck as he strides back over to me. "You're joking, right?" I laugh when he drops the boots on the floor.
"Those are like fourteen sizes too big for me." "They're not for you." He shoves his feet inside the boots and gives me a satisfied grin as he stomps around to feel them out. "Awesome." This is so Kai. He fucks me senseless, then steals the only decent shoes for our trek back to civilization. Some things never change, even after mind-blowing orgasms. He heads for the window he climbed through earlier tonight, waving me over. "Come on. Let's go." I scowl over at him, grimacing as I put weight on my injured foot.
Suppose I'm limping all the way back to Greek Row in the mud, while Kai doesn't even get his fucking feet wet. "Fuck, fuck, fuck," I mutter as I climb out the window. Surprisingly, Kai's arms are out to catch me so I don't have to hop down. Sweet gesture, but my feet splatter in mud, and I can't help but catch sight of his glossy, waterproof rain boots. A gentleman would have offered me the boots, even if they were too big. A gentleman wouldn't fuck me with an ice pick. ɴᴇᴡ ɴᴏᴠᴇʟ ᴄʜᴀᴘᴛᴇʀs ᴀʀᴇ ᴘᴜʙʟɪsʜᴇᴅ ᴏɴ find(ɴ)ovel.net A gentleman wouldn't call me a slut on repeat.
A fucking gentleman would have written back. I tilt my head back, gritting my teeth at him in a fake smile as I flutter my eyelashes. "The fuck now?" he mutters, frowning at me. "Nothing, babe," I say sweetly. "Just wondering how a prize like you stayed single all these years." "You calling me an asshole?" he says, narrowing his eyes. There's a mischievous gleam in them I don't like one bit. "I'm calling you the king of all assholes," I shoot back, waving him on with a flick of my hand. "Go on. Don't mind me.
I'll just limp behind you like the loyal, crippled subject I am, Your Majesty." He studies me for a beat. "You really think-" he cuts off, shaking his head. I glare at him suspiciously as he crouches down in front of me, turning his back and pointing. "Get on." "Excuse me?" "Get. On. My. Back." He glances over his shoulder, expression deadly serious. "Unless you want me to throw you over my shoulder like a caveman. Your choice, Heavenly." My stomach does a treacherous little flip at the nickname, but this still feels like a trap. His voice softens just enough to be dangerous.
"Don't you think you've had enough pain for one night?" Something in his tone makes my chest tighten. This is the Kai who used to clean my scraped knees when we were kids. The one who'd throw an arm over my shoulder as we huddled under the overhang to stay warm during a thunderstorm. The one who'd change the subject when our conversations got too real, too fast and tears were on the verge of spilling. The one I was forced to forget when it was obvious he'd moved on. "Fine," I grumble, climbing reluctantly onto his back.
"But no funny business." His hands grip under my thighs, fingers pressing into flesh with just enough possessiveness to send an unwelcome shiver up my spine. I wrap my arms around his shoulders, hating how perfectly I still fit against him. I can't count how many times he carried me like this when we were kids. "Ready?" he asks, his voice a rumble I can feel through his back. "For the slow death of my dignity?" I mutter. He laughs, the sound vibrating through my chest as he climbs through the window with surprising grace considering he's carrying me.
As he walks, his thumbs trace small circles against my skin. I tell myself it's to secure his grip. I tell myself I hate it. I tell myself a lot of things these days. Rain patters down on us as Kai carries me toward Greek Row, his breathing steady despite his own injuries. I rest my chin on his shoulder, close enough to smell his hair, close enough to feel his warmth against my cheek. Close enough to remember why it hurt so much when he rejected me.
