Chapter 866 Levi's presence lingered here like a stain that wouldn't wash out, even though he'd been locked away for months. Gavin's hand rested firmly at my lower back, steady and protective. He hadn't said much on the drive here, and I knew it was because he was worried about me. "Stay by my side," he had told me as we got out of the car. The guard led us down a narrow corridor and stepped outside a reinforced room. Thick glass separated us from the inside. Levi sat at the table, wrists shackled, his dark hair longer than I remembered, his face gaunt... but his eyes were the same. Sharp...
Calculating.... Watching. The moment his gaze landed on Gavin, his mouth twisted into something between amusement and disdain. He leaned back in his seat, his eyes narrowed. "Well, if it isn't my old friend, Gavin Landry," Levi drawled. "What honor do I have for this visit, Almighty Alpha?" Gavin didn't look the least bit amused. "We came for information," Gavin said, pulling out a seat for me to sit down. I sat down, and Gavin sat in the seat beside me, his hand never leaving my thigh. I wrapped my fingers around his hand, as if that were enough to ground me. Levi let out a bark of laughter.
"Of course, you did... why am I not surprised that you can't figure things out on your own?" "Cut the shit, Levi-" "Tell me, Gavin... did you ever figure out that Lila wasn't the true heiress?" Levi interrupted. "Did you figure out who it was?" His eyes flickered to me, and I saw something flash in them that made dread fill the pit of my stomach. "How do you know this?" I found myself asking. Levi let out another laugh. "Oh, you'd be surprised at what I know," Levi murmured, before fixing his eyes on Gavin again. "I know way more than you think, and Alpha Landry, here, knows it.

That's why he's here... am I right?" "Just tell us what you know about Megan Churchill," Gavin said through his teeth. A look of surprise flashed across Levi's face, and he blinked once... twice... three times. "Why do you want to know about my sister?" Levi asked, raising his brows. "From what I understand, she's not your sister," Gavin told him. "She used to be your stepsister before your parents divorced." "It's still strange for you to be asking about her." "Because she's Lila's mother," I blurted.
"Because up until yesterday, we thought she was dead, only to find out that she's been alive the entire time and deemed missing. My adoptive parents admired her and thought of her every time they looked at me because she gave me to them or so they thought. But even if I was switched at birth and Meg isn't really my mom, it almost feels like she is, and she still gave my parents a chance to be parents. So, I want to know where she is." Levi studied me for a moment, and I couldn't tell if he believed me or not.
He leaned his forehead on his seat and then nodded slowly, his eyes never leaving mine. "Okay..." he finally relented. "I'll talk to you and tell you what you want to know. But only you. I don't want him in the room." He motioned his head towards Gavin. "I'm not leaving," Gavin said through his teeth. "I won't leave you alone with my mate." "There are guards still everywhere," Levi muttered, nodding his head at the many guards that circled this place. "What do you think is going to happen, Gavin?" "I still don't trust you," Gavin growled, his wolf on edge.

"You don't need to trust him, but I Pet need you to trust me," I assured him. "There's no way he can get to me from the other side of this glass, and as he said, there are guards everywhere. And also, I'm a born fighter. Please don't mistake my pregnancy for weakness can still kick ass when it's needed." He looked at me... like really looked at me... and then he smiled as he leaned down and kissed me soundly on the lips. "Okay," he breathed against my mouth.
"I'll be right outside. If you need anything, use our bond to call me for help, and I'll be here faster than you can blink." I smiled and leaned into him, kissing him on the lips once more. "I will," I assured him. We both ignored Levi, making immature gagging noises as we kissed. Gavin stood and walked out of the visitor center, and the guards closed the door behind him. I leaned back in my seat and faced Levi, my arms folding across my chest. "Okay... you got me here alone," I tell him, narrowing my eyes. "Tell me where your sister is and what happened to her?"
