---- 318. WHAT'S HAPPENING HERE?! ABIGAIL We were sitting over a dark pit, with ashes and charred bodies all around me. | had finished off the rebel threat, that was certain. The trees in the forest were still smoking and crackling, burning; the smell was dense, and the smoke made my eyes sting. Worst of all was how I'd left Fenrir's body. The severe burns were only just starting to heal on his skin; it had to hurt so much, despite his regeneration. "You... did you hold me during the crisis?" My voice broke as the truth sank in.
"Fenrir, you could have died..." "Then | would have died with you, Abigail, because | have never felt as desperate as when | felt | was losing you," his voice came out hoarse and tight, through clenched teeth. | didn't know if he was furious, worried, desperate, or a mix of it all. "Do you know the danger you exposed yourself to? If | hadn't found you, you'd be dead!" he roared, and | could see the ---- desperation in his pupils, a mix of red and blue. "| didn't know | was getting close to the rebel camp." | lowered my head, but my eyes landed right on the burn on his chest, raw and awful.
"| know you're a good person despite everything, but you shouldn't have jumped into the fire like that for a stranger..." | started looking for any scrap of clothing, but we were both naked and, again, shame washed over me. | tried to back away, but his hands clamped on my arms and he made me face him. His expression flashed danger. "Do you think I'd jump into the fire for just anyone? | did it because you're mine, my mate! And | know | was wrong, but my life... 1." He clenched his teeth so hard | saw the veins stand out in his jaw. "Abigail, | want you, okay?
Only you, and | intend to fight for our bond," he promised, his thumbs stroking my sensitive skin. "But you told me you didn't want commitment..." "That was before | met you, before | touched you, before | ---- smelled you and felt you... My female, your soul is screaming for me. He leaned in and sighed near my mouth. "Your she-wolf isn't letting Gale in; | know she's aware, | know she feels us perfectly well, but she's afraid, like you..." "It's not fear," | murmured. The knot of pain in my chest was unbearable again "It's... loyalty. My wolf and | are loyal to Hannah.

If | shared you with your brother, how would you feel?" When | asked him that, silence fell. The truth spell was already history, just as our failed bond would be. Fenrir gripped my arms so hard | felt the mark of his fingers; it was a gesture full of frustration. His lowered eyes flicked around, frantic, searching for what to answer, "We're going to your sister right now; we're going to clear all of this up once and for all." When he lifted his gaze again, it was full of determination.
---- "No matter how things turn out: | the lycan prince of Nocturne, choose you as my mate." "That's not a decision you can make on your own." | tried to pull away, but he held my chin in a dominant grip. He brought me close to his lips and his pupils narrowed, lupine, spellbinding... "Yes | can, and | will. Wanting you and loving you: that's something no one can take from me." His lips crashed against mine and moved me with rough need, but | didn't open my mouth for him, not this time. | tasted bitterness, the salt of my tears, and | resisted the call of his wolf.
Bryda was in agony, circling and circling. | knew very well that lycan could slip into my inner world if he wanted, but he didn't force her, and his melancholy howls brushed her ears from afar. But Bryda was loyal to her sister wolf; she needed to know she had her blessing, that this could be resolved somehow. | closed my eyes and stepped back with my head down. ---- "You need to heal, you're in bad shape..." "What | need is to get you safely home and find your sister," he said, helping me to my feet. Being naked in a moment this sentimental was almost ridiculous.
My obsession with cleanliness and order was on vacation with so much drama. I kind of didn't care about anything "It's ironic you were running from Hannah up until a day ago." | twisted my mouth, standing up and trying to cover myself with my hands. The air was still an oven that made him sweat; however, | was fine. "For the one time | decide to be a coward in my life, the price | paid was way too high. You already know the idiot you got stuck with...
but relax, I'll be an obedient husband." He answered with certainty, but with his back to me, while he searched through the debris for something we could throw on. A sad smile slid onto my lips when | saw him bend over and flash me his ass cheeks without a shred of shame. ---- This crazy man had jumped into deadly fire just for me. He held me and comforted me while he tore himself apart in flames and risked his life. Why can't he be mine? | feel like | left a stifling prison only to step into another. Even so, daylight caught us on the way back to the pack.
In rags, a mess, but at least he was healing. We walked in silence, each lost in our thoughts, though Fenrir had taken my hand and refused to let go. My fire wolf kept seeking his dominant magic, and Bryda gazed longingly at her Alpha. We reached the spot near where | had split from Hannah when a presence caught my attention. Fenrir stopped short too, and soon the sound of footsteps echoed nearby. The bushes burst apart and an almost exact copy of my mate appeared, but with a deeper frown. "| was already heading out to look for you..." he said ina booming voice and shot me a curious look.
---- Suddenly, someone stepped out from behind him, and my eyes met a pair of gray ones just like mine. "Abigail!" "Hannah!" We both shouted at once and ran to the middle to hug like we hadn't seen each other in an eternity. When | wrapped my arms around her waist, my nose pressed to her neck and | caught her scent mixed with another, possessive and very dangerous. My eyes narrowed on the bite mark peeking out from the dress and branded on the nape of her neck. Hannah had been marked by the male who was with her.
My eyes widened as | looked at him, standing behind her, and | knew at once who he was. Fenrir's twin brother had marked Hannah. What the hell was happening here?!
