Chapter 473 +25 Bonus The door closed softly behind them. The room provided by the prosecutor's office wasn't large, but it was warm enough-a two-seater sofa, a small table, a water dispenser, and a frosted window that let light in without revealing anything outside. At the very least, it was far from cameras and spotlights. The noise was muted, the pressure eased. More importantly, it was a space safe enough for them to speak as husband and wife-not as subjects of the news. "Sit down," Daven said with a long exhale. He hadn't expected a visit from his wife at all.
The lawyers handling his case had only mentioned that a family member wished to see him. If he'd known it was Althea, he would have refused from the start. Had Arsen coordinated this with the lead counsel? He didn't know. He couldn't contact Arsen freely. Even speaking with Cale came with time limits that couldn't be negotiated. It truly felt like prison. Althea stepped closer without saying a word. Only when she was that close could she see Daven clearly-his face pale and drawn, tension still etched into his jaw.
His suit was rumpled, his tie loosened, and his eyes-usually calm-now looked forced into constant vigilance. That was enough. Althea didn't wait any longer. She wrapped her arms around Daven gently. The embrace wasn't tight, nor was it rushed. She rested her face against his chest, and for the first time since entering the room, her tears fell unchecked. Daven stood still for a few seconds before returning the embrace. His arms circled her slowly, then tightened not to restrain her, but to make sure she was truly there, in his arms. "I'm sorry," Daven said quietly.

"I never wanted you to see me like this." "Why not?" Althea asked softly. Daven could only stare at the ceiling, searching for the right words. None came. All he could do was close his eyes tightly and stroke her back in slow, gentle motions. "I'm sorry," he whispered. "I've seen all the news," Althea said softly. "They're cornering you. Making you look like a reckless criminal as if everything you do is some unforgivable mistake." Daven let out a long breath. "I can't stop it.' >> "I know." Althea tightened her hold.
"But you don't have to carry it alone." Daven loosened his embrace slightly. The guilt in his chest only grew heavier. He brushed away the tears still clinging to his wife's cheeks. His voice came out hoarse when he finally spoke. "I should have protected you from all of this." ― 1/3 Chapter 473 +25 Bonus Althea frowned faintly. She tilted her head up to look at him, lifting a hand to cup his face gently. "You didn't fail to protect me," she said quietly but firmly. "You're just standing in the middle of a storm. And I choose to stand here with you." Daven's gaze wavered for a moment.
"I don't want you to be hurt because of my name," he said honestly. Althea gave a faint smile, though her eyes were still wet. "I didn't marry you again because of who you are, Daven Callister." At her words, Daven lowered his head slightly and gently pressed his forehead to hers. Their eyes closed together, sharing the warmth of each other's breath in the small space between them. "There's something you need to know," Althea continued softly. "I married a man who's responsible-who always thinks of his family. You've always known how to put us first." "Ah..." Daven murmured.
"You always manage to make me fall in love with you again. Every single time." He held her tighter. For the first time since being at the prosecutor's office, his shoulders finally relaxed. He felt some of the weight and pressure lift. "Thank you for coming," he said quietly. Althea gave a small nod. In that small room, behind walls that shut out the outside world, the embrace became both simple and powerful -a place where they could lay down their exhaustion, their fear, and the love that endured despite the pressure closing in on them.
Althea eventually loosened her arms and opened the large bag she'd brought with her. Her hands still trembled slightly as she took out clothes. "I brought you a change of clothes," she said, placing a clean shirt on the sofa. "Underwear, toiletries, and.... this." She pulled out a small bottle of moisturizer and Daven's regular medication. "I don't know whether they gave you these or not." COIN BUNDLE: get more free bonus P Comments 曲 +2 Support Share X Mark
