Chapter 418 Cale closed the last folder and slid it across the desk toward Arsen. That's enough. I'll read the rest later." Arsen nodded. "If you need-" "I know," Cale cut in shortly. He was already reaching for his jacket when his phone vibrated in his pocket. A message came in. I'm already in the lobby. Cale clicked his tongue softly and typed back quickly. Five minutes. Don't disappear before I get there. He knew exactly the kind of person waiting for him downstairs patience was not Lydia's strength. A minute too late, and she might leave without a backward glance.

"Tell Daven I'm heading out," Cale said, already moving before Arsen could respond. The elevator descended swiftly. When the doors opened, the Callister Group lobby stretched out wide and cold, just as it always did. Near the gray leather sofa, Lydia sat with her legs crossed, checking her phone. One foot rested lazily against the floor, her face blank-the unmistakable expression of someone waiting. As if she had been there for a long time. "You're late," she said without looking up as Cale approached. "Your patience really is thin," Cale replied casually.

"I said five minutes." Lydia glanced at her watch. "Six." Cale tilted a smile. "You were counting?" "Of course," Lydia answered coolly. "I don't like my time being wasted." "That's rich," Cale said lightly. He dropped down beside her and rested his head against her shoulder without the slightest hesitation, unconcerned by the attention it might draw. "Considering you came here without me asking." Lydia snapped her phone shut. "I just finished a meeting in this district. I figured I'd pick you up. Don't get full of yourself." "Good to know," Cale leaned in slightly.

"For a moment, I thought you missed me." Lydia snorted. "In your dreams." Still, Cale noticed it-the way Lydia let out a breath, just a little easier, the moment she saw him. It didn't escape him, though he chose to pretend it did. And for that reason, he held back his smile. "Come on. I don't have much time," Lydia said, prompting him to stand. She handed him the car keys-the same man who had been her partner for nearly two years now. "Dinner out?" Cale offered as he followed her. "I know a quiet place. Not too crowded." Lydia shook her head immediately.

"No." "That was fast." "Because the answer's obvious," Lydia replied. "I want to go home. Eat at home." Cale stopped walking. "Whose home?" "At your mother's house," Lydia replied flatly. "Where else would it be?" Her answer made Cale chuckle. "Besides, your mother just went through something that shook her badly. I don't want to leave her alone-especially not tonight." 1/3 Chapter 418 +25 Bonus Cale fell silent for a moment. Not because he disagreed, but because he knew Lydia was right-and that was what made it irritating.

More than that, her concern for his mother was genuine and it was only natural for her to worry about Riana. "You know," he said finally, "I could say my mother is strong and oesn't need anyone watching over her." "But you won't say that to me, will you?" Lydia cut in quickly. "Because you know that would be a lie." Cale let out a short laugh. "It's incredibly annoying having a partner who knows me too well." "If I'm such an inconvenience in your life, you can stop," Lydia slit back, expressionless. "Can't," Cale replied lightly. "I'm already in too deep." Lydia scoffed.

They walked out of the building. Dusk hung low, traffic thickening Cale opened the car door for Lydia-a reflexive gesture he never acknowledged as one of his softer habits. "Then let's go home," he said once they were seated. Lydia turned to him. "Not straight there." Cale raised an eyebrow. "Another stop?" "The supermarket," Lydia said. "I don't want your mother or Althea going through the trouble of cooking. Even with staff around, I want to make soup for them." Cale started the engine. "You sure?" "Yes." Lydia buckled her seat belt as the car pulled smoothly into traffic.

It didn't take long before they arrived at one of SunCity's more well-known supermarkets. The place wasn't too crowded that afternoon. Lydia grabbed a basket; Cale pushed the cart-their unspoken division of roles, as natural as breathing. They walked through the fresh-produce aisle. "What do we need?" Cale asked. "Soup," Lydia answered. "I need fish and a few herbs." "For Grace?" "Pasta," Lydia shot him a look. "If you forget that, I'll seriously question your relationship with your own niece." Cale picked up a neatly packaged tray of ground meat.

"If you're making my mother soup and pasta for Grace, what are you making for me?" Lydia looked at him steadily. "What do you want?" "You." Lydia scowled. "Talking to you is exhausting." Cale burst out laughing. BIG SALE: 3500 bonus free fou you Comments Support Share get it 2/3 X Mark
