Chapter 8 Kael grabbed Nadia's wrist hard. "Nadia! You couldn't get the Locket, so you sent people after Vivian and had her beaten, didn't you?" Nadia stared at him, feeling nothing but bitter irony, "Kael, your guys watched me the whole way home. When exactly was I supposed to kidnap her or have her beaten?" Kael hesitated. Before he could answer, Vivian walked in looking all messed up, with a clear handprint on her face. "Kael, don't blame Nadia. I shouldn't have fought with her over the Locket." She reached up to take the Mourning Locket off her neck.
Kael immediately grabbed her hand and stopped her. "Someone as nasty as Nadia doesn't deserve this Locket." He glanced at the butler by the door. "Nadia, since you refuse to learn, go to the punishment room and take what's coming. Stay there until you admit you were wrong." Nadia stared at him. "You want me to take the punishment?" The Ashford family's punishment was ninety-nine lashes across the back with a whip. No normal person could handle that. Kael's face stayed ice-cold. "You did something wrong. You deserve to be punished." Nadia laughed bitterly.
"My biggest mistake was marrying you." Kael froze for a second. Then his eyes went sharp. "Add ten more lashes. No one lets her out without my say-so." Nadia got dragged to the punishment room fast. The second she knelt down, sharp pain shot through her knees. Turns out the cushion was stuffed with thumbtacks. The butler held the whip, looking uncomfortable. "Mrs. Ashford, forgive me. But I have to follow Commander Ashford's orders." The whip came down hard. Lash after lash, until her back was torn open, blood everywhere. When the last one landed, Nadia collapsed completely.

Blood soaked through her clothes, making her look like a crushed flower. Suddenly, the door opened. Vivian walked in slow, casual. When she saw Nadia on the ground, a smug smile spread across her face. "Nadia. I already talked Kael into letting you go. You can leave now." Just then, Nadia's phone buzzed in her pocket. Message from her lawyer. 12:29 My Last Gift To My Ex: A Bomb 26.9% Chapter 8 "Ms. Hayes, all paperwork for your divorce from Commander Ashford is done. Divorce certificate's been sent. Should arrive soon." Nadia looked at the message and let out a long breath. Finally.
She could leave. She struggled to push herself up, eyes dark as she looked at the smug Vivian. "Vivian. I'll be waiting to see what happens to you." Then she turned and limped away. After leaving the punishment room, Nadia went straight to her room and packed. Dragging her suitcase, she took one last look at this house full of lies. Then walked out without looking back. Just as she reached the front gate, a car pulled up beside her. The window rolled down, showing a sharp, defined face.
"Nadia, I'm here to keep our deal." At the military base, Kael sat on the couch as soldiers dragged in a man. "Commander Ashford, this is the guy who grabbed Ms. Crawford." Kael stared at him, eyes deadly. "How much did Nadia pay you? What made you think you could kidnap Vivian?" The guy looked confused. "Nadia? Who's that?" Doubt flickered in Kael's eyes. Then the landline on the desk rang sharply. It was the police. "Commander Ashford, this is the FBI. Your parents have been kidnapped. Three timed bombs strapped to them. Only Nadia can disarm this type. Bring her here now." Kael froze.
His secretary spoke up first, panicked. "But Mrs. Ashford's eyes... She can't see colors anymore!" Kael didn't hesitate. He sent people to find Nadia immediately. But the only answer he got was that Nadia had completely VANISHED from San Diego.
