Chapter 190 I Want a Divorce "You're nothing but a maid." When everyone heard that, they started murmuring among themselves. There it was again-that same old feeling. Because of Gilbert, Sherry was once again getting gossiped about and looked down on. The only upside was that these people didn't say it to her face-they at least gave her a little respect, even if it was fake. After everything she'd been through, she'd left Seaseat City, but Gilbert still couldn't leave her alone. Sherry cut Lucas off before he could say a word.
"Gilbert, you wanna humiliate me that bad?" she asked, dead serious. "You wanna make everyone in the world laugh at me before you're satisfied? You wanna get everyone to insult me so I'll run back to the Bode family and be your maid forever? Is that what you're after?" When did this start? Oh right-every single time she fought back against him. Gilbert would put her in the most awkward, humiliating situations-ones that made her lose all her pride.
He only felt good when she stayed home, took his crap quietly, cooked his meals every day, and stood by the stove day in and day out, never complaining. He wanted her to give everything, ask for nothing, and never stick up for herself. Only then would he be happy? "Maid? Why you gotta talk like that?" Gilbert's face flushed a little, and he snapped back, annoyed. "When did I ever tell you to be a maid?" He didn't want people thinking he treated his own wife like garbage-that would make him look pathetic in front of everyone! Besides, he was just telling it like it was. How was that an insult?
Could she not handle the truth anymore? "Aren't you basically calling me a maid with what you just said?" Sherry fired back. "Didn't those words come out of your mouth? Now you're backtracking? That's exactly what you 1/3 meant!" Gilbert frowned. "I was just talking about what you're good at..." When did he ever insult her? "Let me make this clear!" Sherry shouted. "I will never do a single thing for anyone in the Bode family ever again. Not laundry, not cooking-not even handing you a stupid shirt! "I don't need you to tell me what I can and can't do.

Even if I really was a maid somewhere, I'd be making my own money, with my own two hands! "Since we got married, I only took your money for less than six months-ten grand a month. And this year, you gave me some dresses that I sold for cash. That's it. That's all I ever got from you. "You really think you're good to me? You think I can't survive without you, that I'd be broke? I never had a single good day when I was with you!" She'd dragged up all the stuff he'd tried to sweep under the rug. It was as embarrassing as being stripped naked in front of everyone.
"I just forgot if I gave you money for meds! You think I'd stiff you on cash?" Gilbert snapped. "Ten grand a month is more than enough to live well. What do you mean you never had a good day with me?" It was like being with him was nothing but misery-no happiness at all, not even a little. "You have the nerve to talk about those months you gave me money?" Sherry yelled, louder than ever. "Your mom! Every single day at home, she demanded abalone and seafood-all that cash went straight to her! "She even made me pay for her card games! As soon as you canceled that card, your mom bailed.
You wanna know what I ate every day at home?" It was so plain; no rich guy's wife would ever believe it. "Right now, I'm standing here talking to you as Mr. Harrison's only personal assistant. I make two million a month! So you don't get to talk to me about 'personal business'-you have no right! "The only personal business I wanna talk about with you is when we're getting divorced!" Before, when she talked about how miserable she was, people were on the fence-half- 2/3 believing, half-doubting. After all, so many girls would kill to marry Gilbert.
Those little rumors weren't enough to make them change their minds. It was like-she already got such a good life, why complain? He couldn't be that cheap, could he? Like Gilbert said, if you didn't ask for stuff, maybe he just forgot. If you didn't ask, it just meant you weren't feminine enough-you didn't know how to sweet-talk a guy. At this circle, if you didn't have a rich, powerful family backing you up, you gotta kiss up to your man. Otherwise, why would he pick you over all the other girls? So what if you were pretty? Pretty only got you so far.
Besides, in their eyes, even if life was tough as a rich guy's wife, it couldn't be that bad. But Sherry was talking about divorce. How bad must her life have been to walk away from that? Could she really be telling the truth? That she ate like crap and got no money? That was just... Even the cheapest person alive wouldn't do that, right? When you were rich enough, people would stick up for you without you even asking. And that's exactly what happened here-no one could believe Sherry's story. Gilbert definitely couldn't believe it.
There was no way Sherry would let him go-not in a million years! "Bringing up divorce here? Real smooth move," Julia said, summing it up with a ton of sarcasm. 2/2 admin
